We stayed a couple weeks in March, site 199. Lots of campground loops in this park, and we had full hookups. The sites around us were wooded, and I noticed a lot of the sites are pretty unlevel. Ours was good enough. I'm sure this place gets crazy and loud in summer with weekenders boating etc.
Lovely short trails around to walk the dog or you could just walk the park on the paved roads - I easily got in my 5 miles a day.
I really loved being in nature while visiting a friend, and we'd stay there again.
*While the price was $31.50 a night, you also have to pay for your vehicle. Because we stayed 2 weeks, it was cheapest to get a yearly pass, which was $125.
I don't recommend getting mail here: the people at the gate say yes to mail, the people at the office say no. I got 3 things mailed there, and got 2 out of 3 (who knows what happened to the 3rd, which said it arrived just a couple days into our stay, but I never got it.)
INTERNET HORRIBLE
Somehow hubby made it through the 2 weeks, as he works full-time from the camper. 2 days he had to go work in his car by the office, which has better internet. I don't remember the speedtest numbers, but we had to use ATT hotspot - Verizon hotspot didn't work at all. I was taking live Zoom classes during the day, but had to miss class those two weeks. Streaming Netflix etc in the evening was touch and go - sometimes we could, mostly we couldn't. This was during a time of year that the park was pretty emptied out on weekdays, so it wasn't due to others trying to stream etc. in the evenings.
Couldn't really talk on the phone while in the park - lucky to talk a minute here and there and then they couldn't hear me.

Would be a great spot for bird watching. Camp spots were close to level.

Great city park on Joe Pool Lake. Check-in staff were very nice.
Middle of Metroplex off SH 360 just south of IH 20. 360 is a tollway but frontage roads are nice.
Only issue - we were there for Christmas and traffic was hectic on highways due to Mall, stores and restaurants.

First, let me say that it is a beautiful campground on a beautiful lake. Campsites are level and shaded. It is a shame that other campers and the staff ruin it. In the first place, when we checked in, we were overcharged for the use fee, which is in addition to the campsite charge we paid in advance, there is a use fee payable on arrival. We qualify for non-resident Senior and obviously qualify, but they never asked and we found out it was available when they gave us our park materials after we paid. They have really given us the run around and won’t refund our money. Our bathhouse did not have hot water. When we reported it to the staff, we were told the City of Grand Prairie planned it that way because it was so hot in the summer people didn’t want hot showers. (We later asked someone else and found out the hot water line valve had simply been turned off!). Then, the campsite next to us was having a party, they had too many cars and occupants, and were very noisy. we asked the staff if they could either get them to tone it down, which they said they couldn’t because it wasn’t quiet hours (the park rules say no loud behavior at ANY time, which we pointed out, so we asked if we could move to another site and they said no, although from walking around the park we estimate about a 60% occupancy. A Ranger eventually did talk to them, but about an hour later and well into quiet time, the music and arguments and yelling continued. We just went in our camper, shut the doors and windows, and watched a movie to drown it out. We are usually pretty tolerant but it has been one thing after another and staff is not hospitable. The location and scenery is still worth it, but do not trust the website for campsite availability. Our particular loop has about 25% occupancy, but it’s well below half full though the website and the sign at the gate says that it is full! They are really losing money with so many empty campsites.

We stay here all the time and love it. Spacious sites. I just wish they would trim the trees that are close to the roads a little better though..we just drive in the middle of the road to avoid scratching the rv.

$22.50/night for our site (not lakeside or FHU) + $10/day pass or you can get an annual pass.
Lots around in the area.

We had a wonderful 4night/5 day camping trip at Loyd Park last week. The campsites are very wooded and shady, making our travel trailer's A/C not have to work as hard as usual. The camping spots are big and each one has its own wonderful covered picnic table. Our wifi/hotspot worked perfectly so my husband could get some work done during the week. We really enjoyed swimming as well. The lake water was cool and very refreshing! Everything was very clean and well-kept. Our cost was $22.50 per night that included a 10% off Good Sam discount. Then there was a $2 per person per day Senior Citizen fee that equaled $16. So all total $90 plus $16 equals $106 divided by 4 nights was $26.50 per night. We had fun! Thank you! (There is major construction on Ragland Rd right now. The road was a little hairy coming in with a 28' travel trailer on a one way pot-hole filled road. So I'm giving it 1 star for access right now. It WILL get better as they finish construction....soon I hope!)

We chose Loyd Park on Joe Pool lake mainly for the convenience and due to Covid not many parks open. While this is a nice park and great staff, our particular site was covered with small ant hills and several poison ivy plants very close by. We brought our dog so we just had to pay close attention to where she walked as to not get in the ant hills or poison ivy. Campsites have very nice covered picnic tables and have ample space between sites. The pads are paved and are very level. While not a state park, it has most characteristics of one. I have it a middle rating due to the ants and poison ivy.

The ever growing metroplex is moving in. This city park is a fantastic site for all your business in the mid cities and southern metro area. In 25-30 minutes you can be anywhere in the Midlothian Mansfield and HEB Arlington Fort Worth area.
The staff is friendly kind and full of good information. The entrance is manned/womaned around the clock. All access is controlled for safety reasons. A few of the bathhouses have been updated and provide for a more comfortable shower.. drive around and find one if the one in your location is not. This place is clean maintained and perfectly located. We took a 2.5 mile hike around the grounds just before a huge storm hit the area. It’s well worth the money. FYI, plenty of good restaurants within a 10 minute drive. Tip; Hwy 360 south of I20 is a toll road, but service is free and easy to use with few lights. Not worth taking toll road north to I20 or south to 287. Inside I20 it’s free.
