We had an early appointment at Cummins, so this location was convenient. The actual site conditions, driveways/ pads are mostly unlevel front to back and many have drop off issues side to side. Most sites also have trees with low / untrimmed branches overhead and along the sides of the pads. With that said RVs over 25 - 30 feet long will have issues in a lot of sites. Trailers work best here and longer C class and A class Motorhomes will have trouble finding a good site but there are a few (we had site 188 which was long enough for our 40' motorhome). Power/water were fine.
Its mostly quiet here. Ranger sightings are pretty rare. Did not use the restrooms and they seem to be pretty far apart. For some unknown reason the check in process at the front gate is slow and it takes extremely longer than it should. We arrived on a Thursday afternoon, had pre-paid ($30 per night $5 for each person = $40), printed everything out. Still took over 30 minutes. We camped at Cedar Hill State Park in a Motorhome.

You can’t escape the highway noise anywhere in the park. Have a nice Ranger tour of Penn Farm. Hiking trails are nice. Easy access to restaurants and stores (Cedar Hill).
For those passing through Dallas Fort Worth, it is 4miles from I-20 easy in and out access to the park.
In the future if I want to stay on Joe Pool Lake, I will choose Loyd Park over this state park

First time at this state park. Had expectations of doggie trails and a nice site. No luck. Dirty site with crumbing asphalt. No views. After cleaning the site we got settled for 2 nights. Ants are a problem for sure. Ugh. There is a renovation in progress around the park and it needs it. They should find the money or time to clear dead trees. Our site had one and thankfully did not fall and do any damage. Dump station was good. Did not use any facilities so I can’t speak to if they were ok. Several sites near us appeared to be full time living with trash and free roaming dogs. We won’t be back unless all of that changes. On to more parks and back to more COE parks.
Texas State Park pass discount.

We spent one night here as planned. When checking in we were told about the ants and to watch for them. We were not told to watch for the sites already treated or that we would need ant spray. We left not realizing that our 17 ft. trailer had been completely infested! We could not sleep in the trailer that night so got a motel room and headed back home the next day, canceling all our plans for the remainder of the week. Come to find out the park has been fighting these Argentine ants for at least 3 years. Nature will be nature, but we would have appreciated a little more warning than just “watch for the ants”! Besides that, the park in all is in bad shape and didn’t really see anything that doesn’t need improvement. We have spent the last two days completely emptying out the trailer and killing ants. So disappointing! On a better note, the Park Ranger we spoke to when reporting the problem was very helpful and knowledgeable about the ants. Wish we would have spoken to her at the beginning. She deserves 5 stars.

We pulled in at 9pm & left by 8am but it was a great stop. Yes, ants are around. Look for white powder on the ground (ant killer) and try to park inside that area. But a perfect spot in lieu of a basic RV park. Big rigs would have no problems on the road in/out

The ants invaded our trailer within a few hours of checking in. We left in our truck to get ant spray, went back and sprayed what we could then hooked up and left to go back home. Very disappointing.

Most of the park is closed as well as the amenities due to renovations. There is a bad septic smell at our site and scattered around the park. Lake side is not well kept. Individual campsites are well kept. Parking is very tight. Nice staff.
