Came in October 2018, arrived mid-evening and couldn't find a walk-in spot. After visiting _every single campsite_ at Joshua Tree, we spotted a bulletin at one of the campsites that recommended Joshua Tree North as an overflow option.
30 minutes later we were rolling down a dusty dirt road in the dark that was heavily rutted in some areas, but definitely navigable by a 25' Class C. We were also able to park without needing to level. We didn't realize the sheer size of this space until morning. There were maybe 10 other campers in a space that could hold well over a 100.
A bit dusty for your pup but a very peaceful spot.

I read all of the other reviews and I had some trepidation about staying at this site, since we were driving a 24’ RV. Yes, if you looked for it, you could find some poop and some tissue paper in bushes. If you weren’t looking for it, it wasn’t noticeable at all. I didn’t see any trash to speak of, whatsoever. I am sure that this is different depending on the time of week and time of year.
We have had a very epic RV journey for the last 2 weeks and we boondocked the whole time (using this fantastic site to help us pick out spots). The road here is NOT bad- slightly bumpy from ample use. Just go slow.
This sight is maybe a half an hour from Joshua Tree NP entrance in Twentynine Palms- not 70 minutes as the other reviewer mentioned.
When we were here we saw a half a donzen other RVs spread out all over his large section of land. We were no where near a neighbor, but again, I imagine this place can be a zoo during peak times of the year.
Lastly, we saw one person on a dirt bike when we first pulled in, around 7pm. Other than that, it was very quite and peaceful out here.
In short, we would absolutely stray here again because you can’t beat the price and the proximity to the National Park!

Bumpy road as usual, but if you drive slow it's not that bad. Really close to Joshua Tree town and National Park (like minutes away). Hot as hell, if you're used to that then you should be fine I double stocked up on water ha! My pull off location was pretty clean, there were some small bits of glass and paper, but I walked around barefoot and was fine.

Can get very windy and if its bad can cause alot of dust in the air. Road is somewhat rough coming in but be patient. I would turn right on Broadway off of Sunfair rd and that will take you directly into the BLM area. Free water at the gift shop at the visitors center. Dump aater and showers are located at the Joshua Tree Lake Campground off the same road so pretty close to the blm area.

I went to Jashua Park but there was a sign that the campgrounds are filled, and It was close to sunset so I decided to go here as I saw good reviews. First of all it is 70 mins from the park so I don't know why ppl call that close. When I got there I had 10 mins before the sun goes down so I had no choice other than to stay. Unless you have been there before there is no way to find your way in or out at night. 2. The road was so bad that even with a 4x4 I thought I got flat tire from the way my wheels were acting and the sound. 3. There is no view, dirt, sharp bushes (dangerous for small pets and yourself). 4. Too windy, could not sleep even with a tent that does well with wind. 5. Not sure what kind of dog other users had that allowed their dog roam around the area, but that area is 100% packed with coyotes. I had small dogs with me and it was one of the scariest nights of my life. If you are from CA then you know we have coyote issues even in urban areas. CA coyotes are not scared of ppl. They take your pet from your yard in front of your eyes. At that place I was waiting to be attached by a pack of coyotes all night.
In the morning it did not look so bad. Maybe I would have a different experience if I would get there earlier, I think that place is okay if you sleep in your car, but not if you travel alone with small dogs n thinking of sleeping in a tent. Too windy for tents and dangerous in my opinion.

Good distance between established sites with easy turnaround. Basically its a wide open plain. You wont get locked in. Hard telling how it would be when it rains. We stayed 2 nights and had a windstorm with a magnitude of 11 out of 10. Thought we would wake up in Oz. The day we left it was as calm as could be. We were there during Presidents Day weekend and there were about 10 campers but very spread out. The NP was less than 1/2 hour away, about 45min to Jumbo Rocks. The area was fairly clean with minimal trash. Unfortunately we were not able to enjoy much because of the wind but I think what we experienced was an exception. I’m sure there is wind here but not this much. Definitely would stay there again when in the Joshua Tree NP area.

If you have a big rv the flats area is a great spot but there at some good spots for smaller vehicles to get tucked up in. This is BLM land. In the flatter seemingly dried lake bed(correct me if that is wrong) there is Verizon/T-Mobile service LTE but up in the hills it’s more spotty. Overall a great place to stay!
