We don't normally stay at Colorado State Parks because they are expensive and often times, you don't get much for your money. But this time we didn't have many choices along Hwy 40 in NW Colorado.

The sites are neat and well kept, though the old grate style picnic table was rusty and kind of gross. Water was available nearby, but beware: the water here stinks. It stank in the shower and I didn't discover this until I had both washers ($1 ea, 75 cents for dryers) full of laundry, I was panicked, but a lady told me her laundry never smells, nor herself from showering, but DO NOT fill our camper tank there, b' c it will stink. We took her advice.

We stayed on site 18 which is close to a water spigot that serves several sites, making our stay a little easier. While we were there, the river was very high and there was a daily risk of flooding even though there was very little rain. It was very hot without any shade but we still enjoy staying here and will again.

The sites are placed far enough apart not to feel crowded and we enjoyed it enough to return.

There is a trail around the park great to walk your dogs but be advised of the mosquitos, they are evil and bite hard! Kind of spoiled our walk and even sitting outside after dinner.
Laundry was awesome, $1 for washing and $75 for dryer. Machines looked relatively new too.
There is road noise, you can hear US40 but if you pick a site further out it isn't as bad.

Yampa was very clean including the shower house and laundry. The weather was bad with the smoke from the wild fires and the river was low. This is about 40 minutes from Steamboat and right next to highway 40, so it was loud especially since I-70 is closed due to the mud slides. We stayed in an electric site. The sites are not on top of each other and front to back there is tons of room. The shelter provided is nice but your phone won’t work near it.
Playground and corn hole available.

Me and my wife pulled in after the office was closed. There was a box outside the office with envelopes to pay $9 no other numbers for what they wanted fo camp there so we put $9 in the envelope and got a pull through space, no sewer or water just power only. I thought the price was low, but figured I could settle in the morning if we paid the wrong amount. Next morning a rude ranger did show up and told me there was a phone number on their sign in front of the office I should of called and that I owed more money, because the space cost $32 per night. I told him I would pay the different, then he asked for my name and date of birth. He already had my name and the license number of our RV.
So I stop by the office to pay the different on my way out. The same rude ranger is there and tells me I need to give him my drivers license, because Colorado requires it to log into to their park system. Mind you he already has my name, vehicle license and my date of birth. He then takes about 15 minutes on the his computer with my license, I think maybe running me for warrants.
So after about 15 minutes he tells me that the $9 I paid will be used for day use of the jeep I pull behind my RV and I still owe him $32 for the camp site. I tell him that I thought I was just paying the different between the $9 I paid and the $32 I should have paid, but he said no I still owed another $32 for the camp site with no sewer or water. I asked if there was a discount for a vietnam veteran or Good Sam and he told there was no discount at all,. Colorado has high prices for their campgrounds.
I left there feeling he had invaded my privacy and now had all my personal information and really regretted that I had stopped at this lousy State Park. If you do not want to give all your personal information to a rude ranger do not stay at this park.

The cell service showed decent strength at 2 to 3 bars but the speed was awful and we had to be outside the coach to get decent service. The site was not level. There is electricity at the site but that is all. Water is available at spigots around the park but not close enough to use for filling water tanks. There is a nice dump station with fresh water available. You can hear the highway but not bad. The site itself was $33 per day but when you get there (you have to pay the site fee ahead of time) they add another $9 per day for a "park access fee" so the total is actually $41 per day.

This is a nice CO state park, with an assortment of large, level, and spacious sites. RV sites are electric only (both 30 and 50 amp) with threaded water spigots (shared for filling only) throughout the campground, including 2 at the very easy to access dual-sided dump station. While this campground is conveniently right off highway 40, the campground doesn't get much road noise and it was peacefully quiet at night. It's also a pretty quick 14 mile drive into Craig to pick-up dinner and refuel. Each site includes a covered picnic table and firepit (off limits during the current fire ban), and campground amenities include a short but nice walking path, playground, horseshoe pits, bathhouse, and laundry. Verizon worked fine without a booster. This was just a quick stop over for us, but we would stay here again. The only negative is the high cost of camping- campsites are $32, and you either need to possess a CO State Park Pass or pay $9 a day for entry.

The Yampa River is unspoiled by dams or improvements all the way to Utah. This is a good access point. Also here is the park HQ with some interesting displays. Craig isn't too far with some good Tex/Mex spots, but because of CV-19, the museums are closed. There two historic sites between the campground and Craig. The RV sites also have wind breaks.
