Great for a pit stop when there’s nothing else available but not great as a destination unless you are coming for the park. Pros: plenty of room, fairly quiet, nice breeze, big rig friendly, mountains in the distance. Cons: Trashy from locals including broken glass, people yeeting on the road at all hours, dusty, burrs pretty m... more
Great for a pit stop when there’s nothing else available but not great as a destination unless you are coming for the park.
Pros: plenty of room, fairly quiet, nice breeze, big rig friendly, mountains in the distance.
Cons: Trashy from locals including broken glass, people yeeting on the road at all hours, dusty, burrs pretty much anywhere you walk.
It gets a 3 due to convenience and room but I would definitely try a different place if traveling through and you have the daylight/ time to look for a better spot south of grand junction.

At 5am we had someone knock on our trailer asking for a ride because the cops were after him. We have friends that have had similar bad experiences to the point where they were scared to stay the night.

We've had good luck at other OHV sites and figured we would stop here for a few nights. Got in as the sun was setting so we didnt have much time to scope things out. We've had good luck at other OHV sites and figured we would stop here for a few nights. Got in as the sun was setting so we didnt have much time to scope things out. Found a small clearing without any other campers and set up shop. Fairly level, but FULL of broken glass. Got a shovel to clear up best we good so the dogs wouldnt cut their feet. Around 9-10 the kids started showing up. Lots of drunk kids, racing, 4x4's blasting up dunes, a couple teenage girls asked to use our bathroom (?!), our campsite became a parking lot, fireworks, more racing.... It settled down around 2am. In the morning our site was full of empty booze bottles (and a couple full ones). If youre a teenage looking for a place to get loaded, have a fist fight, and maybe roll you car, this is 5 stars all the way. If youre looking to camp, go elsewhere. We ended up at upper Grit Wall just south of town and its been gorgeous.

It’s good for a place to sleep. Busy road due to people riding atvs/bikes. Lots of trash/bottle caps/glass. You can tell people come here to party. No actual fire pits, people burn on the ground, which creates more trash. LOTS and LOTS of little black gnats which made the day pretty unbearable.

My first bad review………..I usually love BLM stops, especially when there seems to be good side x side trail riding in the area. Based on the previous reviews, this place looked ideal for our big rig, wide open, and since it is designated as an OHV recreation area, we had high hopes of staying for a bit and doing some riding. This place is specifically a dirt bike park. It is a fun dirt bike park, and we enjoyed watching them for hours. But, it is not for side x sides. The camp sites down the road were big enough for big rigs, but the entry to each one of them was severely rutted from previous mud and on serious inclines/declines that we would not have been able to maneuver. The few spots that were accessible before the staging area were occupied by abandoned RVs or permanent stayers. Also, there is garbage EVERYWHERE. I expect some garbage, we see it more and more. But this place has it everywhere, broken glass, tires, bags of garbage. It’s sad, his place has great potential, but it needs some serious TLC. Cool shooting ranges, and we watched fighter jets from a nearby airport. We ended up staying one night in the staging area and moving on.

When you hit the dirt road keep driving till you find a spot Plenty space to find a site. A few permanent campers in the area. Dirt parking space. Felt quite safe. Close to town but remote at the foot of the hills

We had a quick one-night stopover here and woke up to beautiful views. There were a handful of vehicles here already, but there was plenty of space for each rig. Keep driving up the road after the GPS hits the OHV area and you’ll soon find a big open area on the left side of the road (going away from Grand Junction)

Great little spot it’s a little bit further back than you might think you might think you’ve passed it but you just gotta go a little further wouldn’t recommend going if it snowed within the past week otherwise it’ll all turn the mud but if it’s dry it’s perfectly able to fit multiple campers In a convoy
