water available throughout the campground close to any site. the campground was fairly full but we arrived fairly early and had our pick except for site 5
site 5 is the premier location for privacy and a panoramic view
the campground is close to the Highway, but the traffic is light and noise level is not worth mentioning.
we paid $5.00 which includes senior discount

We squeezed into site 7 with our 33' travel trailer. Our back window and a couple of the side windows look out into the lake. To be fair, the other two side windows look directly onto the aluminum roof of the ramada. (Each site has a ramada.) As others have said, there are not a lot of spaces for bigger rigs. As others have said, there are not a lot of spaces for bigger rigs. Our backup plan was to go to the San Pedro site a few miles away.
There are water spigots close to many of the sites, though not intended for individual use.
The $5/night price represents a senior discount.

Sites 1–10 mostly for smaller rigs and mostly unlevel. Sites 11–15 on Amphitheater road spur. Sites 13 & 14 mostly level for larger rigs, 15 mostly level for mid-size rig. Sites 11–15 have more road & train noise.

This is great dry camping in an organized campground. I had potable water spigot next to my site that I used to fill my tank. The Amistad Reservoir is beautiful. There's a border crossing in Del Rio but otherwise, not much going on except boating, fishing, and going in the water. At this campground, you will hear the traffic on US 90 but it isn't that much. 50% off if you have an NPS Annual or Lifetime Pass. Not too many spaces and no reservations taken. Some sites have asphalt pads. Mine did. Others are unlevel and clamshell style.

Arrived at 6:15 on Thursday and it was full. We were surprised because so many reviews said it was lightly used. Fortunately there was a cross-country cyclist who offered to share site since he only had bicycle and tent. There is road noise but not that bad.

With our National Parks Service senior pass we paid $5 per night for three nights. This site is about 100 yards from a busy highway but as tired as we are at the ends of active days we never noticed the road noise at night. Kudos to the Parks Service for installing composting toilets...No smell! Had to take a flashlight inside after dark though, as motion-activated lights turn off before you've warmed the seat.
Some sites are more level than others, and we were fortunate to have been able to try a couple of spaces before dropping anchor. This is a relatively small campground, and was almost full when we arrived.
There is a dump station just down the highway a short ways at the Diablo East campground with plenty of space to swing a big rig around. That campground was actually closed for maintenance and so no water was available, but the dumps were still usable.
We very much enjoyed our stay and would gladly come back!

Ok. On to the next. Its just north of Del Rio, TX...named the nations friendlist boarder town. Crime rate is reportedly almost non existent around here. I did notice a TON of boarder patrol agents and police cruising everywhere around here......anyway, this is yet another campground maintained by the national park service and they do a great job. Not quite boondocking perse..... but 10 bucks a night, 5 If your a senior. First come, first served. Only 15 spots. Can stay 14 days. Was talking to one of the park service workers and he gave me the scoop on a couple other nice spots around here and still part of this national recreation area....ill stay a couple night here, than I'll check them out.. (big bend will just have to wait). No hook ups but I don't need them. My solar is cranking away. There are several potable water stations, trash cans and vault toilets if ya need them. Some sites are level, some aren't. Vzw and att Cell/data service are both strong. Laughlin Air Force base is about 20 minutes south of here and is the largest air force training base in the country. ~350 air force pilots graduate from there every year. More planes take off and land there everyday than any other airport in the country....when I was driving in on rt 90...there was a steady stream of Talons coming and going....right over the road. I hear them buzzing around the lake too. This lake...is really a reservoir. Lake Amistad was a joint project between the US and Mexico. The damn was completed in 1969. Amistad means "friendship". It was made from both the Rio grande and the Devils Rivers. It covers almost 65,000 acres, 851 miles of shoreline (574 in Texas...rest in Mexico) and has a max depth of 217' and like many bodies of water in the SW water levels are low, however it is still a popular rec area and is well known for fantastic bass fishing. Several televised Pro tournaments are held here each year. It is the 2nd biggest lake in Texas. Pretty impressive right? Yeah...glad I stopped! Quiz to follow later...lol.

Very affordable sites on Amistad Reservoir outside Del Rio. White limestone contrasts with the blue waters. We could carry our boards down to the lake for an afternoon paddle. Quiet and dark at night. Dump state just up the road and water spigots in CG. Outhouses could use some work.
