We only stayed one night. The park as a whole was just great!
Gravel pad, fairly level. Full hook ups were well kept. The bonus diner on the premises was very good!
The lady running things was so nice & friendly!
Right off the hwy was convenient with no road noise!
Will definitely stop when we come thru again!

I stayed here for a week (weekly rate $180) to attend an event in the area. The park is conveniently located just off I-25, about 15 miles north of Trinidad. The highway noise was minimal. There are no real amenities here but the cafe has great pulled pork. Since I just needed a place to sleep while attending my event, the lack of ambiance and amenities wasn't a concern for me. It was very windy the week I was there - don't put out an awning. My only real complaint about the site was the way the hookups were situated. To avoid people from running them over, the hookups are surrounded by rocks. This means you have to carefully step on the rocks to hook up and the sewer connection had to be raised on my rv end to form a slope from the rv, over the rocks, and into the connector which was about a foot above ground level. On the plus side, the sites are very wide and there are hookups on both sides so it doesn't matter which way you pull in. I had plenty of room to open all my slides and park my car alongside the rv. Sorry - I forgot to take any pictures of the site.

Arrived late afternoon, checked in at Cafe. Woman was also very friendly and gave us a copy of Menu. Cafe open 7 am to 6 pm. Nice to not have to cook for the evening or unhook car and drive.
If you need a safe, quiet place to stop for the evening, this is it. Their Green Chili is wonderful!

Pull through sites, full hookups 30/50, level sites. Appears tight parking but there's plenty of space outside your door for add'l parking between sites. Not much greenery and a bit dusty but it's reasonable with views of mountains. Interstate sounds are prevalent but think of it as white noise, not bad. Woke up a few times to the wind, keep your awnings in. Definitely try the cafe and BBQ...serves until 6PM. Had the brisket...yum! Would definitely return.

Campground was full on a Monday night. They accommodated us with a free boondocking spot. One or two trains but not bothersome. Easy on/off I-25. Barbecue from their restaurant was excellent! Overall positive experience for a way stop.

Stayed here one night on way north. Small campground of about 20 FHU sites. Many permanent campers. But quiet and clean. Super friendly staff. Great little cafe. Had home cooked dinner. Would stay again. Cold at night here so better than boondocking

Only negative, it snowed a few days before we got there and it warmed up above freezing and the road and site was very muddy.

We stopped here because the weather was getting bad. They were very accommodating letting us pay over phone since we pulled in late and left early. The weather was crazy because of the wind and we were thankful for the hookups.

GEARS was a really nice place to stay. When we first drove by we were extremely worried about the road noise since it is so close to the highway. Once we got parked and everything hooked up it was surprisingly quiet. We did eat dinner the first night in the cafe which was really tasty with quite a few items to choose from. The staff is very friendly. This is a mix of people who live here permanently and others that are just passing through. It was clean, quiet and overall a great place to stay. There is room to let your dogs run if you have bigger dogs at the end of the park closest to the automotive business. We have German Shepherds so it was nice to have a place to let them go off leash to run and play.
Please note there are no shower or laundry facilities at this location. Linda's Laundry in Trinidad, Colorado has a drop off service or you can do your own.

We pulled off the road to the nearest campground and this RV Park was there. We stopped at the office, which is also a restaurant. I inquired about staying there and they said sure, just pick any space. Usually at a campground, they assign you a space so they know where you are. I asked the girl at the counter the price and she said $35. I then asked if they give a discount for Good Sam or KOA or AAA. She yelled out to someone else my question, who brusquely said no and the girl repeated no. I asked if they'd be plowing the campground and she yelled out the question again and the person said no, we've never had to plow. Meanwhile, the snow was coming down hard. There was no politeness, no welcome.....The place was shady....there were several very old RV's there with no one in them and some very old, dirty RV's with people in them. I was anxious the whole time we were there that one of those shady individuals would disturb or assault us.
