The campground backs up to the Colorado River and has two lakes for fishing and kayaking. The property is well maintained. All of the sites are level and paved, and some are pull-throughs. Most of the sites are close to each other. Sites A-E are the only first come first serve. You can only stay on those sites for three nights as they are classified as a group site. They will let you stay longer if there isn't a group that has requested those sites. Those sites only have water and electric. There are numerous retail businesses within a short walk from the campground. They charge 10.00 a day for a vehicle pass unless you have the Colorado pass, which is 80.00 for the year. The biggest drawback is that the campground is less than a 1/4 mile from Interstate 70; we were at the back of the campground and were awakened multiple times a night by either the highway traffic or the train sounding its whistle in front of the campground.

However, the firepit was receded in the ground making for a huge danger of breaking a leg! Sure they did this to hopefully eliminate spreading fires, but I can see how someone could trip & fall in especially at night. Could be a huge issue with kids. Bathrooms & showers very clean but water pressure in showers was very low. We could hear the freeway but it wasn't bad. The dinosaur museum that backs up to the park has huge floodlights on at night. Luckily, we were on the other side but could be an issue for others. The park is large with lots of fields, trails & hiking. If it wasn't so hot, we would have loved to explore more. Local shopping was convenient too.

I really love Colorado State Parks - the paved and very level sites, good amenities and convenient locations. The Fruita section of James M. Robb is no exception. Everything was nice and worked great - electricity, water, showers, and restrooms. There is a local train that passes regularly and the sound of traffic on I-70 is distinct, so this isn’t a wilderness experience. But it is a good location for travelers heading to Utah and Grand Junction has all the shopping you need to restock supplies or enjoy a night out. Be sure to visit the Colorado National Monument, which is about five minutes away. Verizon customers will have excellent connectivity.
The ONLY reason I don’t rate Colorado Parks as 5/5 anymore is the $10 day use fee that visitors must pay in addition to the campsite fee of approximately $41. This brings the cost of a campsite to more than $51 at this location. This is pretty steep for an overnight stop. C'mon, Colorado, include the day use fee in the cost of the campsite and stop price gouging!

So this is a nice campground. Has showers, laundry, electric and water and some full. But no wifi. But it totals out to $50+ a night with the daily park pass. That's more than a lot of private campgrounds and with more amenities.

I travelled here with a 35’ 5th wheel, long bed pickup and parked in the site #17, a FHU, PT site for $36/night. Roads were asphalt and the sites were asphalt with a concrete pad where the rig was parked. The site had a lovely, large patio area with a covered picnic table and beautifully raked small gravel surface. The park waters the areas around the sites several times a week. It was easy to navigate and the crescent shaped pull throughs had a flattened arc making it very easy to get in and positioned well. Many times I have had to back into crescent shaped sites due to the curve, but this was great. There was a small bathroom at my end of the campground with a larger facility in the middle. The large bathhouse was not air conditioned so it was very hot, especially the laundry. I had 2 bars 5G Verizon, no wifi and didn’t check for OTA channels. I did get concerned at one point because the amps dropped pretty low (112-116A) due to high A/C usage – temps got over 100 and nights only cooled down to the 70’s. I never had a problem, but it was a little worrisome. The park is close to Colorado National Monument, McInnis and Horsethief SRA – all had great hiking. Definitely would come back here (just maybe not in July…)

Site 20 looked over storage units. Traffic noise from I-70 was prevalent. Well maintained pull thru sites made setting up a breeze. I would consider this an overnight stop or base for visiting Grand Junction

The staff was great, check in was a breeze. All the facilities were well maintained. Even the dump station was clean.
There is road noise from highway 340 and I-70.
