Nice place! Beautiful views about an hour from New Orleans. It would be nice if they sold firewood and ice. But very friendly and helpful. Great place!

Have stayed here before and it's a nice park when it's dry and the sun is shining. Otherwise it's a swamp. As others said, nice bike trail, nice people. BUT, found out on last trip that they now charge a $6 reservation fee for Reserve America even though you are a walk-up with no reservation. My complaint was rewarded with being given a gravel spit of a spot 10' wide in a swamp of 3" deep water. Real handy to the picnic table. Sorry Louisiana, but if this is your policy, I will be avoiding your state parks.

Campground could use a few more trash dumpsters. The beach was beautiful and I'll bet crowded during the summer. Take advantage of the Rails to Trails bike path. We rode to Liz' Where Y'all At Diner and then drove on for a total 20 mile bike ride. Would totally visit this park again.

Access to the park was good. Signage was good. The check in building is just a short distance from highway 190. Check in was quick, easy and informative. The road in to the camping area is about a mile and in good condition. The speed limit was a little quirky. Fifteen miles per hour is a little slow but most drivers followed the rule. We did note that park police did stop a few speeders. The interior roads are paved and in fair condition.
Our site, 76 was in the north camp ground and was a back in. It consisted of a crushed rock base covered by ground up asphalt. It was not evenly spread and it was only so so level. Utilities were 50 and 30 amp power and water located at the left side. We had a rough table and a very rusty fire pit . The sites were nicely spaced. Internet was good early in the morning or very late at night. OTA TV was adequate. We booked our site for a month to take in NOLA and area. It’s about 30 minutes to NOLA across the toll bridge but we felt it was a wise choice. It is very quiet and very safe.
We noted that there was pretty much zero attention paid to rules and regs by park staff. Multiple vehicles at some sites parked on the grass/mud even though the rules state it is not allowed. Park Police patrolled often but overlooked everything except for speeding. The camp host kept the Comfort Station clean but that appeared to be the extent of their duties. Sites were not raked and litter was not picked up.
The setting is very nice. The park used to be a Sugar Cane Plantation and a lot of history is still visible. A few Hiking/Biking trails as well as a nice beach and fishing pier are available. Lots of wild life around. Deer, Rabbits, Armadillo, Possum, Raccoon as well as Gators (in season).
There are no services within walking distance but a short drive to the City of Mandeville has all the amenities needed.
We paid $388.02 for the 31 days we stayed which works out to about $12.50 per night using the senior discount.. We feel we received very good value for our dollar and will be returning. Please note” The seniors discount is now only available to Louisiana residents. If in the area we would definitely return.

Campground is nice but the road to the rv site is narrow and short in some spots. Ours is ok with 11 feet clearance I’m not sure how the bigger guys did. Pretty easy to get in the spots, hookups are pretty close as well.

We didn’t explore the park to much as we were visiting family for Christmas. The pads are just wide enough to fit your rig. We did see some larger RVs so that shouldn’t be a problem. Plenty of grass area around the sites but it tends to get really soggy and muddy. Overall a great quiet park located across the lake from New Orleans.

We stayed 7 nights, 8 days over the Thanksgiving holiday and this state park was busy. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and would come back.
PROS:
* with senior 62PLUS that Louisana was offering, the site with E and W was $13 per night. The pads are okay and not much problem getting level;
* The staff were very nice and the park was a plantation in its prior life. The visitor/history center was awesome and very knowledgable person inside. The highlight for us was 'the alley of oaks' with the largest and oldest oaks I've ever seen;
* Good biking available (Tammany Trace Trail) was approx 34 miles and would take you into Mandeville if wanted. Good hiking trails too, we really enjoyed those with the story boards;
* Free laundry facilities with state of the art new machines - loved it! The shower rooms were clean but no where to put your stuff (one hook) but plenty of hot water;
* Close to New Orleans so enjoyed a day in Naw Lens on a tour bus;
CONS:
* none to speak of other than how busy the park was. The sites are close to each other;
* Connectivity good in early morning and slower in the afternoon. Over the air TV was okay but again, in the afternoon and evenings would get spotty.

Very nice park but few amenities. Bring your bicycle as the park is pretty big. Nice lake access though the blooming algae put a stop to our enjoying it over the 4th of July weekend. Be sure to stop by the pond and say hey to the resident alligator! Nice spot to just plug for awhile. FHU are limited both all have power and water.

Enjoyed an overnight stay here with my dog. The sites were quite large and secluded, very quiet, slept well. We practically had the place to ourselves! Mosquitoes were huge, as they are in the south in the summer...and it was expectedly very hot, but not unbearable because of the shade and overcast skies.
Walked around the former plantation in the morning and was in awe of the magnificent live oak trees. The Spanish moss dripping down almost to the ground. It was a hauntingly beautiful sight! Pup enjoyed a romp in the sand at the shore of Lake Ponchartrain, but we realized why the park was probably empty. There was an algae bloom that is toxic so no swimming was allowed. It would have been nice to know that ahead of time because I really wanted a place my dog and I could go swimming. I would also have asked for a discounted rate. Giving 4 stars only for this reason.
Overall a lovely place to spend some time relaxing...possibly in the fall when it's cooler.
