This is a very nice smaller park which served as a great staging point for getting into New Orleans (about 45 minutes vis the Causeway Bridge). Site #3 however is the smallest in the park with the neighbor's power pole immediately in front of our door and our picnic table under their rear bumper. So go for any other site than 3.
Essentially every other site is very nicely spaced though there isn't anything separating sites. There are live oaks and tall pines making for nice shading. There are two boardwalks in the rear section of the park along the Tchefuncte River. The Swamp Walk has entrances by the rear dump station and boat ramp. The other goes right along the riverbank.
The front of the park by the office has sites 1 - 60. The rear loop closer to the Tchefuncte River with sites 61 - 82. Both loops have a dump station. There is also a very nice spread out tenting area with up to 20 sites behind the playground. Access to the park is right off of Hwy 22 but can be tricky as the speed limit is 50 mph and there can be lots of traffic. Two accessible sites are in the back section, #75 & 76 I believe, which are fully paved. Even after a heavy rain overnight most of the park was fairly dry aside from the muddy ruts some campers made in the grass when parking.
There is a 48 or 72 hour lead time for reservations so I couldn't reserve my first day but did the remaining 3 online. I called the office and Jennifer was very helpful and added the 1st day to my reservation. I just put down a deposit as it seems with most of my stays at LA State Parks, I can get a discount once I arrive, hence the $20/night rate. This is definitely worth visiting again though I'd also like to check out Fontainebleau State Park and Tickfaw State Park.
When I last checked, T-Mobile and AT&T were close at about 80 down and 20-30 up, though it was slower during the week.

We were just driving through and called ahead to get this site as too late to use Reserve America and got this site right by the restroom and laundry room with a view of the river! In 24 hrs never saw anyone else in shower, bathroom or laundry room even though campground was full of big trailers and motorhomes. No barriers between sites and they're pretty close together in the loop by the river but quiet. Took one star off rating because little to do after walking the mile or so around the camp. Seems like a good place if you have a boat and like to fish tho and the playground looked good.Friendly, helpful checkin. Got senior discount so rate was in the 20's.

It is located on the banks of the Tchefuncte River in Madisonville, LA, so it’s a beautiful setting. Sites 61-82 are on the River, all the others are not... but are only a stroll away. Definitely try to get one of the sites on the River... there is a boardwalk pathway thru the swamp that is a must see. The boat launch is back by sites 61-82 as well.
The facilities are ver clean and well maintained, and the showers have plenty of hot water.
And Madisonville and nearby Covington are just fantastic little towns to explore... a step back into old Louisiana. I will stay here again!

We ended up camping at this campground two times during our brief stay in this area. It is a perfect campground for you to use to go into New Orleans for a day or two (the park is about 1 hour north of New Orleans). The park itself is divided into two sections (near the Tchefuncte River and not near the Tchefuncte River). Our first stay was in site 75 which is actually a handicapped site that has full hookups. We didn’t need a handicap site, but they gave us the site when we arrived. The site is not level front to back, so we had to use two boards to raise the front up. Otherwise, it was a beautiful site! The second site (site #59) was not by the Tchefuncte River, but it was under a beautiful and large oak tree! The site was level and was very spacious. Regarding cell coverage, the sites by the river were 2 bars ATT and the sites away from the river were 5G four bars and fast (60 down 15 up). They did have a free WiFi, but we did not use it. They have two dump stations, one for each area. OTA TV channels at both sites were about 30 channels - all networks represented. The park has a nice short board walk called the swamp trail which was fun to walk on. We will definitely be back to this campground if we are in the area again - $20 in November!

We love Fairview Riverside State Park and are glad to be able to use our America the Beautiful Pass. We love campground 2 and the river view. It is clean and well kept.
We get several digital tv channels and can always relax here.

Other reviews will adequately capture all the positives about this park. While we were not dependent on the bathroom/shower facilities we sympathize with those who are/were. For all of campground 1 there is a single facility in which are 3 combo rooms for each sex that each contain a toilet, lavatory and shower. When these are in use, there is no toilet available for someone who needs one and during peak shower use times, this could result in some urgency.
This was a fine location for us to visit New Orleans from and we enjoyed Madisonville.
The sites are a little small for an additional vehicle but there is additional parking nearby.
Know that you can experience some significant traffic delays west of the park on Hwy. 22 when the swing drawbridge over the river is operated.
Stayed 2/28 & 2/29/20.

We stayed one night and really enjoyed the experience. The Swamp Trail left from the campgrounds and was a pleasant walk. The bathroom facility was amazing and very clean. The sites are nice, though we received rain overnight while we were there and drainage was a bit of an issue.

The Otis House tour and other artifacts are interesting and worth the time. We routinely walk the campground road and trails each trip. Once we spotted a few alligators near the boat ramp area. There is also an eagle’s nest viewable from the Swamp Trail. It is very peaceful sitting on the boardwalk bordering the Tchefuncte River. The restrooms/showers are individual rooms and huge. The park manager and staff are always pleasant and helpful.
