Overall Rating
We had the best time here. The campground was barely half full, which made for a pleasant experience. It's very clean, quiet and peaceful. Our site was a short walk to the lake and it was so empty that we could let our dogs off leash to run. It is a bit of a drive to Gunnison NP, but it was worth it to us.

We stayed here for one night after dispersed camping several nights in southern CO. We arrived on a Saturday night and was still able to snag a spot. We stayed here for one night after dispersed camping several nights in southern CO. We arrived on a Saturday night and was still able to snag a spot. The campground was almost full, so I was apprehensive and not looking forward to it. It was a pleasant surprise. The $16 fee was 100% worth it to have access to a dumpster, great cell service, dump station, and potable water refill. The camp host was very friendly and welcoming.

4/25/23 We are driving through making our way north with a 25ft class A towing our car on a tow dolly. We wanted to find BLM land to park on for a night but everywhere around is gated closed. We are driving through making our way north with a 25ft class A towing our car on a tow dolly.
We wanted to find BLM land to park on for a night but everywhere around is gated closed.
Even pay to camp spots are closed off.
(I don’t get it. Idaho doesn’t close public lands for a little weather)
Elk creek was the only place near by that we could find to do a quick rest.
$16/night and the bathrooms are closed.
BEAUTIFUL spot I will saw. But with how many crammed camping spots there are, I couldn’t even imagine myself choosing to come back in the summer.
There are electric sites for $22/night as well.…still over priced in my opinion.

This campground is a decent location to Gunnison, but boy was it packed and with lots of groups so it was fairly loud. Also my cell phone was constantly going from 4 bars to 0. I never had consistent cell service. Overall, it was fine for a couple nights, but not sure I'd go back. Only if I was in the area, but I might try another ... more

We decided to set-up here at the CG after checking out a couple dispersed options close by. Good sites with asphalt pad, fire ring and table. Bathrooms with running water on site. Water spigot for filling jugs in CG and full dump station near entrance. Fully exposed to sun and winds (we got both). We enjoyed day hikes and the reservoir during our week. Much of the NPS facilities were under construction, so limited VC and showers were not available.
