A few other things to know. All the pine trees are dead- beetle kill and a fire- many are still standing, others have succumbed to gravity. A bit sad really. There is new undergrowth happening with lots of baby aspens but most are under 6-10 ft so no shade.
Also busy on the weekends with lots of off road vehicles, many whom are not mindful of their noise and dust. There are a good amount of sites, but they do fill up on the weekends.
Not the greatest place I’ve stayed, but the views are killer and it’s very close to Rocky Mtn National Park. Granby is also close to resupply and there is a public dump/potable water station that operates by donation.

I needed to camp near the West entrance of Rocky Mtn Nat Park. This is a recent burn area, so it's not attractive at all. I had to drive around a bit to find a flat spot, but I did. The further back I drove, the more spots I found.

I arrived about 40 minutes before sunset on a July Friday. All the designated semi-private sites were claimed by large groups (2-5 vehicles, multiple tents, various ORVs, etc) and looked like they were well-entrenched for a long stay. Those sites looked large enough for a few "toys." However, there aren't too many sites and I imagine this will be full for much of the year.
The roads themselves were ok for a few miles for sedan/low clearance/Prius, but then got too rutty and I had to turn around. The sites typically had steep entrances and looked inaccessible to sedans, with some being sketchy unless you have a high clearance jeep/truck. I would NOT attempt to access any of the designated sites with an RV!!
The roads go through burned forests and have not been completely cleared of potential deadfalls, so if you go too far, it could be dangerous.
Most sites do not have any views of the surrounding areas, but nice open sky views.
Since everything else was full and/or inaccessible in my Prius, I ended up staying at "Idleglen Staging Area" parking lot up the road to the left. There were many RVs and vans parked there, about a dozen. There is a pit toilet here (nowhere else). Some folks set up chairs and a fire in the parking lot, some families with kids playing, all very respectful and quiet by nightfall. When I woke up I found a van had parked pretty close to me, which is just what kind of place this is. Not much privacy, but if you're self-contained, it's a nice close location to Grand Lake and RMNP west side.
Some people also camped at the pull-off at the entrance to the USFS road where the map is. If you're self-contained it could be ok (and slightly better views).
Cell service was good enough to send some photos and plan the next day with weather, maps, etc.
One of the families with a huge setup at one of the designated semi-private sites had a bunch of ORVs and the kids drove through a few times. That was the only negative of this site.
If your expectations are right, this is a nice option.

A lot of people are putting reviews of what should be this spot under Stillwater Pass. The whole area was burned in 2020 and is full of dead trees.
We stayed here for 6 nights. The access road was in decent shape with an average amount of washboarding and potholing. We found a spot at 40.240447, -105.881917 that could fit us if we backed down it. There were a couple of rigs at the top of the road down, but we fit by them. On the way up, most of the sites were taken on a Sunday afternoon.
The spot was fairly level from side to side but significantly sloped. We had to lower our front jack as much as it would go. Unfortunately, there was a ton of trash including an abandoned tent that we cleaned up. We heard gunfire off and on, but target shooting is allowed in the forest.
Traffic was mild during the week with some OHV and work trucks driving by, but nothing we found significant.
Besides all the dead trees, the view of the lakes and mountains is fantastic. The trees do detract from it, but at the time of our stay, the wildflowers and other greenery was coming back.
ATT service was excellent at 44 mbps download and 14 upload with a roof mounted MIMO antenna.
Dump station is available for $5 at the Stillwater Campground.

Turned around and went to the right instead. Lots of awesome private areas with fantastic views.
Area has been heavily used and while at first glance look clean and fairly free of trash, small bits of glass and trash, ground into the soil, can be seen everywhere in camping spots. Nothing that would turn anyone off though.
The road up was well maintained and to us seemed as if would accommodate any size motor home or camper.
Would definitely stay here again.
