This is a COE park….not a resort so bring your own activities. Not a parking lot camping setting. We enjoyed fishing for crappie and sand bass. All park personnel were friendly. Some may think park needed mowing but Texas in spring brings beautiful wildflowers. If you get the opportunity dine at the Country Pickins Cafe very convenient and yummy 😋

Literally our first time RV camping so take my review with a grain of salt. No real negatives per sé- camp area was clean, quiet & felt very safe. Bathrooms were clean, per my husband. Half the park was closed so didn’t get to explore as much. However, even had it all been open there isn’t much to the area. No hiking trails, no playground, no “beach area” to speak of & no staff other than the 2 people we saw in the check in “guard house.”
The surroundings are pretty. We saw several deer. The night sky was awesome because there isn’t any lighting out there to compete with the stars. No TV signals came in except for 4-5 Christian stations & this was with our antenna fully extended. We forgot to bring any dvds- see “our first trip ever” comment at start - so that was a bummer in the evenings.
Like I said, it wasn’t a bad experience. Overall, we had a great time, but couldn’t imagine staying longer than 3-4 days. Met an older couple who said they’ve been there 5 times. Our first thought was - why? So many other more interesting spots to explore in this great big world. :)
(Spot 37 is perfect though! No neighbors to one side. Close to lake- can see it from RV. Close to bathroom, if needed. Covered table. Double lot. Very quiet & not squished together like the many RV sites further down towards the lake wo any privacy or spacing.)

Reserved 159 days prior
Pros
No reservation fee charged for marking online reservation
50% discount with National Park Pass
Roadways easy to maneuver without any low-hanging branches
Quiet except for middle of the night party animal noise and distant trains
Good dark sky viewing as there are NO street lights in campground
Concrete treads where RV wheels land were level requiring no additional leveling efforts
Metal cover over concrete picnic table
Entrance gate closed10pm-6am so exit only without any reentry until 6am
Saw 1 squirrel and 5 deer
Nice Golf Course next to campground
Nice fishing piers
Plenty TP in toilet/shower rooms
Very nice large group picnic pavilions

Cons
Our sited had no number signage
Site consist of sandy gravel which high winds created a dust storm making a gritty mess of everything inside and out
Site water hookup below ground
Campsite had unusual amount of trash and cigarette butts
Campfire ring full of ash and trash upon arrival and there has been a county burn ban for the last 6 months
Campground toilet/shower facility lit up at night like a Christmas tree
County Burn ban, which we discovered ourselves and confirmed by calling park prior to arriving with campfire wood
Upon check-in, friendly woman at gate told us one thing then a man at the gate contradicted the woman regarding charcoal fires
Quiet hours not enforced. 4 toilets for 24 campsites for possible 8 people per campsite PLUS boaters and fishermen. Phew!
Half of park closed during winter so 37 campsites only open April-September
The park 3 dumpsters were overflowing; 1 was over flowing upon our Thursday afternoon arrival and the other 2 were overflowing Sunday morning so we had to pack out our trash
No site # sign on our campsite
No patrolling host or ranger.
No privacy from one campsite to another
No playground, basketball or tennis courts
No campsite BBQ grill
No hiking trails
No soap or hand towels in toilet facility
No trash cans in or outside toilet facility so people threw trash on floor
No WIFI

We love Corps of Engineer parks and this one was no exception. It was a handy place to stop for a couple of nights on our way west.

The site was right on the water overlooking the lake. Amazing sunrise and sunset. The park is well taken care off, clean sites and it’s pretty quiet. Full hookup is certainly another plus.

This is a quiet campground with lots of deer roaming in the open spaces. If you enjoy fishing there is a fishing dock and a boat launch. Our AT&T router worked great and streaming wasn't an issue.

Copperas Creek was a wonderful stop for us. We wish we could have stayed longer but had a travel schedule to keep. We had full hookups and with our America The Beautiful Pass we only paid $13 per night. Our site was reasonably level and very large. We had a sturdy fire ring, a grill, a nice covered picnic table. We did not select a lakeside site, but even from our site we could enjoy the lake and listen to the various waterfowl. The nights were so dark and made sky-gazing a joy.
If we have reason to be in this area again we would gladly stay here again. We recommend this campground wholeheartedly.

We’ve had it before where we have had crappy cell reception, but this was pulling nothing. And it was that way for at least 30 miles before we reached Copperas. Luckily ATT saved the day and had great speeds. And how awesome, because the campground is gorgeous. We were feet from a big lake, with lots of people fishing and ducks and herons all around. The site itself has electric (50 and 30) and water, a fire pit, and a covered area with cement picnic table. There is a sewer dump before you get in, so everything is covered. The bathrooms are individual, with a toilet and shower in each. There’s a dock for fishing and benches so you can watch the sun set. We had nearly no neighbors in our time here, even though it was a holiday weekend and we expected the area to be packed. With views like these, this is easily one of our favorites.

My wife and I stayed at site #30 for the past 3 weeks. I work fully remote from the travel trailer so I had to have good service. Verizon you will only get extended even with a cell booster. Our AT&T mobile hotspot with the cell booster kept our cell reception around 3 bars. Sometimes at 2 and sometimes at 4 but, mostly 3 bars. Which, gave around 20 mbps down and 10 mbps up. This site has good shade after noon or in the early afternoon. It’s about 75 yards to the water and 150-200 yards to the fishing peer. Shade Tree gas station right outside sells fishing licenses and bait. Minion included if you’re trying to catch crappie, which there are a lot of. Overall a very friendly staff and great place to be!
