Chief Mountain West

Located about 2 1/2 hours north of Las Vegas, and 2 1/2 hours south of Ely. About 3 1/2 miles off of route 93 on a well-maintained dirt road. In a small valley with mountains on every side. The views are great. It does get windy, but no biggie. OHV trails, pit toilets, and a couple trash cans. No water. A few sites with shelters, picnic tables, grills, and fire pits. Nothing is level though. Had the place to myself the first couple days. Most I ever had was 2 neighbors the whole time. About 2 - 3 bars for each Verizon and AT&T, but speeds were generally very good. Dropped here and there, but mostly easy to stream. Make sure you pack plenty of supplies because there's not much nearby. Did hear what I assume were a couple sonic booms, presumably from Area 51, about 50 miles to the southwest.

First, Apple Maps takes you past the trailhead turn off by 0.2 mile. Just start looking out for the right hand turn if you came off Hwy 93 about 0.3 miles from destination.

Wow. What a wonderful secluded area for camping and OHViing.

There’s a pit toilet (very clean), 3 individual and 1 group covered picnic table areas with a fire pit and a grill.

Overall, this site is extremely clean and well maintained.

I was the only one here on Saturday night.

Excellent dry camping location. This site has four shaded picnic tables, fire rings and a pit toilet. It is one of the trailheads for the Silver State Trail. Easy access for any size rig. The entire area is gravel.

To access the site, turn off Route 93 onto North Pole Line Road. You will see the powerlines from a good distance away while still on 93 and there is a small utility building on the corner. The GPS coordinates for the turnoff are 37.620956, -114.783613.

Drive on N Poleline road about three miles. This is a very good quality dirt road so don’t let that distance discourage you. Turn right towards the campsite at GPS 37.664078, -114.761649. You will be able to see the shade structures in the distance while still on Pole Line Road.

During our visit on July 3rd we were the only ones there. There was no OHV traffic (other than us) and only a couple of vehicles passed on Pole Line Road. Super quiet since you’re far from Route 93.
