As mentioned the road has a lot of steep grades and if you are bringing any kind of towable make sure you have 4x4. At one point coming back out it kicked my traction control light on but nothing to drop into 4x4. Carp has a nice view for sure but airport is the preferred spot. There was an airstream camper up in the big spot over there but I’d really need to be jonesing for camping to bring my camper down here. Your camping on the water and that’s the big appeal. If you love to go swimming all day and hang out at the lake without a boat this is it.
Now the bad, the nasty bad.
People leave garbage and a lot. Someone trashed the place and that was a huge let down after making the 2 hour drive from Vegas. Camp garbage and some butt clown left piece of nasty carpet. I would have brought trash bags and gloves if I had known I was going to have to clean up after animals.

There is 20 miles of dusty dirt road to get here, the last five miles are pretty rutted, and there is about a mile where the road is narrow and very steep. In some places the road is loose gravel and in other places it's sand, so 4WD is definitely required for access.
Make sure to check the weather before coming here. Any rain could prevent you from getting out.
I was a little worried there wouldn't be a site available after the long drive in, but we got lucky and took the main site located at the GPS coordinates above. If you come here and it's taken, there is a roundabout at the end of the road with another site, or nearby Airport Cove is a good alternative. Neither have a view like the main site at Carp Cove, though both have water access.
Besides the heat, the biggest downside during our stay was the mosquitoes. At dawn and dusk they would swarm around the trailer. It was fine as long as we were really fast opening and closing the door. You wouldn't want to sit outside during this time of day, but we did take our AM and PM walk without a problem, sometimes you just have to walk really fast to avoid the swarms.
We got over the air HDTV including CBS (our favorite in the morning).
Bonus! The only other RV we saw during our entire stay was far away in the distance across the cove.
There are a few ways to get to Carp Cove once you reach the boundary of Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Google maps wanted to send us down Arizona Bay Road but we stayed on Cottonwood Road all the way down to Pot Cove and then turned north. Both roads will get you to Carp Cove (I drove both during our week stay) but at the time of this writing Arizona Bay Road was in rougher condition.

Lovely little cove but the six miles of washboard road and limited cell signal means we won't be back
