Small (only 9 sites), newer campground about 20 minutes away from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Stone Mountain State Park in NC. We picked this as a good stopping point on our way to Shenandoah, and it was a lovely surprise. Small (only 9 sites), newer campground about 20 minutes away from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Stone Mountain State Park in NC. We picked this as a good stopping point on our way to Shenandoah, and it was a lovely surprise. The site was the nicest we've ever had; very big and private, lots of separation between sites, and all of them in the main section back up to woods and a creek. There are a couple of pull through, full hook up sites, too, but they're 1/4 mile down the road. Ours was back-in, W/E. The bathhouse was across the street (not busy, but the cars that were on it were usually going too fast), but super clean and nice. Small campstore with hand dipped ice cream, and a tiny playground, but no other amenities to speak of. There's a 1.5 mile (each way) trail directly from the campground to a local winery and downtown Elkin is close by with more trails and some nice shops and restaurants.
