This campground and park are five-star gems! Well-spaced, paved sites in a beautiful setting. Agree that many have no shade. Ours -58-is flat, with partial shade. Elkin is about 25 min away with a terrific Lowe’s and some food lions and good restaurants, including Southern on Main. Lots of hiking options, including a 3.5 mile rewarding one past a restored homestead to a 200-foot waterfall. It was one of few rated easy. Ask at the visitor center. Firewood available. Lots of people took advantage. Several fires dotted the dark, lovely nights. GPS sent us past the main entrance. Be wary of that.

Arrived on a Sunday evening, the woman working was very helpful and nice. Reserved in advance but there were plenty of open spots on a march Sunday night. Sites were very clean, with 20,30, and 50 amp hook ups and water hookups. Dump station on site. I have t mobile and got one or two bars. Nice bathhouses

Another great stay. Campsite by the creek. Was able to sit in the shade and listen to the water. Good weather and nice hike on the Stone Mountain loop.

Very nice state park not too far from Blue Ridge Parkway.
Mobile phone coverage was weak, so enjoy the outdoors.

The campground was very quiet and friendly. Plan to head back there in the Fall.

Unfortunately, our toad broke down on the way, we had to leave it to be fixed, and we ended up this stay with no transportation to get around. The one downfall of Stone Mountain is that you need some means of getting to the trails from the campground. Oh well, we still enjoyed our quiet stay in the campground. Hopefully, we'll have better luck on the next trip, because we'll be back.

NO cell service or WiFi (which is great if you want to disconnect). My only complaint would be with no sewer hook up I would have liked the bathhouses to have better showers. The water could only be turned on by pushing a button and only stayed on for 30 seconds each push.
