For $2/night this was a great stop. The wind was crazy the night we stayed as the area was getting hit with wind and tornadoes. East in and out and not to far off the hwy.

We could have stayed a week. The campground is a few miles from Canyon, TX. The last 2 miles is packed dirt. It's free with a Senior Pass or 2.00 if you don't have a pass. Some of the sites are level, and others have a small slope. The lake has been dry since the 70's,. You have a great view of the plains. There was a herd of deer that... more

There are automatic gates that close at 8:00 pm and open at 8:00 am. The gates keep the locals from partying. There was some noise from the road on the other side of the lake. The best part was we were the only ones there. The sunrises and sunsets were breathtaking.

I ended up sleeping on a dirt pullout by the entrance, another van was already there camping. I left near sunrise so didn't have a problem, but if you want to camp here I'd plan on getting in before they lock the gates.
Nice little wild spot.

There were dumpsters throughout the park. The sites are lined up in a row, with nice picnic tables. Since we were pretty much the only ones there, we didn’t mind, but they were a bit close together. Can’t beat $2 per night. There is a security gate at the entrance that automatically closes and locks at 6pm. This made us feel safe, but it could have been a real problem if we were out later doing g something. Nice proximity to Palo Duro State Park and Amarillo. We got water and propane in Hereford, about 20 minutes away. I needed a haircut while we were here, and stumbled on one of the best stylists I’ve ever been to. Chris at Impressions Salon in Amarillo did an absolutely fantastic job!

I enjoyed seeing the moon and stars along with the deer. Verizon cell service is slow if you are a digital nomad.
