This dispersed camping area is definitely a way to get away from it all. It is situated along a beautiful river valley and has no cell coverage.
The road to reach the National forest land is gravel and slightly washboard. We were able to go around 25mph on the two lane drive. The entrance of the National Forest property shows an improvement in the road which is passable by any vehicle until the intersection with FR 184. From this point 4x4 and high clearance is required. Also note that the spurs FR 183 and FR 184 require a water crossing. Please use caution.
There is a parking lot at the entrance that could allow a trailer to be dropped to scout ahead.
The sites are mostly wooded and private. Most are located on the uphill side of the road, but a few are closer to the river. Four of the sites are pull through and could accommodate a medium sized rig.
The area is closed from Jan 1 to June 15.
The area is frequented by hunters in the autumn, OHVs in the summer and hikers in all seasons. Due to the river valley, one may see a variety of wildlife such as moose, deer, fox and Beaver.
The area received no Verizon coverage except Voice only at the entrance gate.
