Small campground, 40 foot motorhome fit with no problem. All (A) spots are pull thru and large. Great location but don’t plan on doing anything at the campground itself.

oregon state park campgrounds are awesome!
pros: clean bathrooms & showers, water & electric at tent sites, quiet, very convenient location to columbia river gorge & all the waterfalls, super nice rangers/camp hosts
cons: service was all over the place (could text & call but that's about it), not a lot of privacy between sites

Our first time to Ainsworth state park. We found the (A) loop where we stayed very nice and sort of secluded with lots of trees even though you could slightly hear the HWY traffic and the occasional train without any horn. It was really not that noisy. The B loop is much closer to the noise and is more flat ground area. The only slight complaint we had is that the speed of the vehicles going down the hill road past our camp area was a little excessive. Most don’t understand what 5 MPH is and are doing 15-20 MPH. Much too fast for the small road and people. This Park is really not suitable for very large rigs as the roads are narrow and have several tight curves. We found the showers and bath rooms very nice and clean. As a matter of fact, the whole park was very clean by the attentive staff. The campground has a large play area that has a horse shoe area and they have an amphitheater area as well. A very nice place to say for only $26 a night for full hook ups.

I was skeptical about camping here because of the size of our trailer; 43' 5th wheel. We navigated the roads just fine. The only issue was low branches which we pushed up with a pole to drive under. (13' 6" tall).
The staff walk the grounds regularly and are extremely helpful with anything needed. There is a trail connected to the park that connects you to other trails throughout the area. We had three spaces (A05. A06, and A07) for our group. One of the members in our group got sick and had to leave early. When one of the staff walked by I saw them write down that they had left. I let him know they got sick and had to leave early. He made sure were were issued a refund for the unused days which was nice.
Cell coverage was barely 1 bar with AT&T and FirstNet at times. I saw many with WeBoost cell antennas, including the hosts. So I'm sure they help.
If you're biking in, they have bicycle repair stations at the bike camp sites which I thought were really cool.
Our trailer is 43' long and 13'6" to the top of the A/C units. We had a pull through site, but I chose to back out of it as I did not think I would make the turn leaving. There were several branches that were about 12' 6" low that I had to push up with a special branch push rod I made. There was also another 5th wheel the same size as mine in the park. I mention this for those with large trailers as I was nervous about driving in the first time.

We were on our way home and decided to give it a try on July 7th. Now, what was that site number: A11. Okay, you're getting it and maybe you can predict where this is going. Kind of like Robin Williams in the movie RV.
Most of the compendium reviews were pretty good.
I don't remember if the reviews mentioned the trains that go by 6-8 times at night. It was mentioned that loop A had a bit (what was our site number?) more spacious Sites, with loop B closer to the tracks.
I did kind of get used to them. At least they did not use their train horns!
Now then, when we got to the site, I didn't hook up the dump line, figuring it was just a night and would do it in the morning.
Well, fellow RVer, what would YOU conclude with a somewhat brownish-yellow sign on the ground next to the ground pipe that read: Caution, "release tank slowly" Okay what does that mean? Open the tank only 50%? I think the brownish sign should have been a clue, as it also read "this site only".
It DID NOT go well, to say the least. It did not go down the pipe. The pipe was clogged. An appropriate amount of our "stuff" came gushing up all over my wife who is trying to hold the drain pipe down. As I said: this is an RVer's WORST NIGHTMARE.
Site A11 should live in infamy. The lesson we learned is to always look into the pipe at least. And who knows, maybe they will have fixed it by the time you read this, but I doubt it since the sign had been there a while. We left the scene with our "stuff" all over the ground and told the park ranger it is now your problem!

We loved our visit to this park but unfortunately, the cell service is extremely weak and we couldn't do any work during our stay. Mater a fact, we had problems with some calls and texts. We did enjoy the beauty of the forest setting of the CG and enjoyed the 1.7-mile hike to Horsetail Falls to the west via trail 400. It was super hot during our stay and we enjoyed having full hookups which made our stay comfortable (which most sites have). Like other reviews posted, we preferred the A-loop but the B-loop is not bad. Note: some of the B-loop back-in sites are too short for longer rigs. The photos shown are very representative of this park. Love our Oregon State Parks! Highly recommend this CG.

The campground is modest in size but quite nice being situated in the Columbia River Gorge. You can hear the traffic on nearby I-84 as well as the active rail line but it really wasn't that bad. It's very forested which help gives the feeling of being more remote that you really are. We didn't have any problem sleeping due to noise but the trailer is much quieter than being in a tent.
Nice hiking trails nearby.
We had virtually no cell service on Verizon and AT&T. We had to walk over near the interstate to have any usable data.

We booked B17 online but when we arrived, a Ranger ran up to us right at the entrance to let us know she’d assign us another spot. We won’t be able to fit in B17, which was a back in spot. (OmG what if we had arrived after hours!) She offered a few pullthrus in the B lot and allowed me to unhook the Jeep to drive in and look first: B2 was the first PT once you come down from the A loop and B23 was right next to the camp host. We chose for the first since there is an awesome hiking trail (to waterfalls) right next to it. We stayed only 1 night since cell coverage was so weak to carry on our work, despite having booster and 3 SIM cards. If not for that I would’ve loved the park! We left after the next workday and got refunded for the remaining.

We stayed here for several nights to be near Hood River for my husband's birthday before making our way down to Bend. Nearly all the sites have full hookups and there's lots of pull-throughs. Even the back-in sites were relatively easy to get in and out of. Super convenient location for waterfall corridor hikes. Most sites were relatively private, despite how cramped they were.
The pull-throughs in the B loop were mostly all arranged end to end, which meant if someone had a massive trailer with a massive truck sticking out the front of theirs, it could be a tight squeeze to pull in around them (which we did encounter on our first night). The train seemed to come through even more frequently than others noted, but it wasn't very loud. We felt it more than we heard it. Road noise from the highway was also not a problem. Cell reception was spotty on T-mobile, giving us 1 bar occasionally, but solid LTE just a little bit down the road. Sprint was ever so slightly better, and I was able to get two bars as long as I kept it on one particular side of my trailer, up against the wall. Definitely going to invest in a range extender soon. One site across from us had the sewer hook-up out of order, which would be inconvenient if that wasn't mentioned in advance. There was a lot of illegal camping and stripped down abandoned cars just outside of the park, and we did get a truck of folks come in one night with a truck full of random junk that seemed suspicious, and they caused quite a domestic disturbance in the morning before the ranger requested they leave.
