We booked this six week stay so we could plan our upcoming move to Boston. If you are not a Massachusetts resident, the fees are outrageously high and they don't offer any long-stay discounts. For $2,700!, we could've gotten a private campground with full hookups (especially because private campgrounds offer discounts for stays this long), but we were unable to find availability, so we settled for Wompatuck.
So, here are my issues with Wompatuck:
- On our way, we were having car trouble and needed to get there a day early so we could bring our truck to a shop. I called at 3 pm to request to add an extra night and was denied. The manager (as he identified himself) said they had plenty of open spots, but their rules say you can't book same day after 2 pm. I explained that our starter was going out and we were afraid to get stuck somewhere if we couldn't get our truck to start the next morning and he became agitated and hung up on me. This, folks, is the manager... and explains a lot about what's wrong with this park.
- For this rate, we got electricity and that's it. We had very poor cell reception (AT&T), no wi-fi, a very muddy site, clean but poorly upkept bathrooms, and frequent trips to the dump station. Although there was a water spigot right next to our site, we were reprimanded for using a splitter so we could keep our hose set up and not have to wear out the pump in our RV.
- I know we were there during a rainy season, but the very wooded park made it very humid and muddy. I had to use rain boots just to trek to the bathhouse, even on dry days.

Only 60 minutes away from several great destinations makes this a great place to setup a family hub for vacation. Downtown Hingham is a gem with tons of great food options. Sites are spread apart and all seem shaded. A little expensive for out of staters…but other than that, great place.

We stayed here in July. It was hot but the bugs weren’t bad in the shade. While there are trails for hiking, the park is mainly focused on biking so bring your bikes along. The campground is nice and our spot was level and shaded. Didn’t go in the bathhouses but they looked nice on the outside.

Stayed during beautiful fall colors. No sewer but convenient water access and fantastic free spring water available to fill drinking containers. Decent proximity to Boston, close to Harbor ferry, great day trips nearby. Loved the trails.

Sites were spaced far enough apart. We had electricity but no water or sewer.
They have a no alcohol policy so keep that in mind.
Cell service was good without needing a booster.
Very convenient spot to explore Boston.

Our site was situated just down from the bathhouses, which we now know are better-than-average for most state parks. Hot water, flush toilets, and solidly clean, we were happy with the accommodations there. There are a LOT of spots here, but we stayed mid-week so there it was rather sparse in terms of other campers. I can imagine it getting a bit loud during busy times just due to the sheer number of people it can accommodate, though the spacing of the rigs (with trees between each site) still put it heads about traditional RV parks.
If you're looking for a campground with a lot of amenities, this likely isn't the place for you. It's basic, but what's there is clean and in great working condition. If you're looking to relax, take some nice hikes or ride bicycles (our favorite thing to do here!), or need to be under an hour's drive to Boston/Salem/Plymouth/Plimoth Plantation/XFinity Center then this is a perfect place to camp.
Be sure to look for the relics of what this land used to be- an old ammunition annex- and look for the buried bunkers all throughout the property! Once you know what to look for (long mounded 'hills' with trees growing on them) you'll spot them everywhere and be amazed at how many there are.

Half of the park campsites seems to be no longer maintained which has created a really awesome and slightly spooky setting if you walk or ride through the old roads. Seriously, horror movies could be filmed all throughout this park. It's awesome!
There are a lot of great mountain biking and hiking trails through out the park. Overall we loved this park even though it only has 20amp service and no sewer. The bathroom and showers were decent.

The great thing is, you are only 15 minutes from the Braintree stop for the subway. We stayed here in order to explore Boston. It was extremely convenient. The sites only have 20amp and there is no water or sewer. We stayed in Site K6 which was close to a water spigot, so we were able to refill one day without moving the RV. We will probably stay here again.
