On weekends, you only hear nature. If you want to avoid a horrid long dirt road, take 301/98-River Road-Auton Road-Withlachoochee route.

You can choose to hookup to electric and water for $25 a night or dry camp in the field for $15. The field does not take reservations (it's huge and they always have room) and payment is done by cash or check only. Just call ahead to make sure the field isn't being used by the astronomy club. We saw incredible sunsets every night and the neighboring landfill did not affect our stay whatsoever. The park has a dump station with flush water and basic trails for hiking and biking as well as a canoe/kayak launch on the river.

Good to know: there are a couple dirt roads GPS keep routing us through to get just about anywhere. You hear the local dump work during the day (heavy equipment and beeping trucks). You sometimes smell the sulphur and dump when the sun is hot or the breeze blows.

Dump station was accessible and we got a nice, shaded pull-through spot (site 3).
Joe, the park manager was very friendly and helpful. The park has great nature trails, bike paths, playgrounds and more.

Our first time visiting and staying at Withlacoochee River Park was awesome. Will surely return with the family.
We checked in via phone with the park ranger (reopen since COVID closures) and he expertly guides us to our site. #15 is nestled among the trees near the grassy knoll with ample space for our 22” travel trailer.
We enjoyed camping, taking nature walks, playground fun and climbing the observation tower with the kids.
The one negative was the number of flies around our site. Constantly shooing and swatting then outside and inside our rig. Florida summer so what can you do.

This campground has but 15 sites and each one has plenty of space. Sites are sand and grass with no gravel or concrete. This was our second visit. There is a water and electric hook up at each site and a dump station by the exit. The park has very well marked trails for hiking and one is even paved. There's a large observation tower and a few boardwalks. The bathhouse is small but was clean. There are trash cans located throughout the campground and rangers are quick to see that everything is kept up.
While we were there they had stacks of firewood that were there for the taking (they had cut down a tree or two). This was true the last time we were here also.
My only complaint is that there is some heavy equipment close by that you can hear during working hours. That annoying beep-beep-beep of large trucks backing up carries a long way. At night it is very quiet, but I rated the noise level a 3 star because of the daytime volume.

Restrooms are okay, however not as well maintained as other State parks.
Check out time is 10 AM which is a bit early for a weekend camping trip and leads to long lines at the dump station.
