Called ahead to see if any sites were available and also if anyone would be in the office. Gentleman answering phone said he would be out of office after 5pm that evening and not returning until 2pm the next day. He would make sure an after-hours packet was in the box and told us what the fee would be with GoodSam discount. He told us we could choose from leaving CC info, a check or cash in the envelope to pay for the site (we chose cash) and immediately past the office, were the restrooms and laundry, just after the building itself, we would see a couple of new trailers and then a couple of open sites to pick from….that would put us very close to the bathrooms, all had good 30amp service, which all we needed for a one night stop.
We found the envelope, filled out the paperwork after backing into the closest site as he had indicated. Walked back to office to “deposit” the payment and paperwork checking out the restrooms along the way. They were clean and warm… while we did not actually use the showers, they too seemed clean and almost homelike.
The campground seemed to be reasonably full of longer-term campers… but was very clean and well laid out. While it is not directly on/off the highway, was not difficult to find. Local grocery store (Porters) was close by, well stocked and reasonably priced. Doubled back thru town and stopped at Love’s gas station right on the way back to getting on the highway, very convenient.
While we only drove thru town, it would have been fun to walk… many Route 66 era places to check out.
Overall impressed with this place and the price…. Money well spent.

We stopped here for two nights so we could have electric (it was in the 20s at night and got barely above freezing during the day), get water and dump our tanks. We stopped here for two nights so we could have electric (it was in the 20s at night and got barely above freezing during the day), get water and dump our tanks. The gentleman in the office was very nice. There are two areas, one on the lot with the office and one across the street for larger rigs. Unfortunately it was so cold that the water spigots were frozen. That being said it was a nice stop for what we needed. We couldn't really hear the interstate and the trains didn't go by that often to be annoying. Wifi was great and we used it instead of our hotspot. We would definitely stay here again.

Clean sites and clean bathrooms. Just perfect for an overnight while moving to the West.
Sites are all gravel and we had a back in site. Had no reservation and no problem finding a site. But they told us had quite a lot of reservations so better reserve since only 2 spots available.

We were passing through TX and we stopped in Van Horn because of the reviews and numerous RV parks. We stayed for a week because we only travel on the weekends. I called around for prices and this place was about $80 cheaper than the other park across the street. Very nice staff and quiet except for that damn train.

Like many reviewers, we stopped in Van Horn between destinations.... there isn't much along I10 in Texas, but at least the traveling is easy. This is a Passport America park, and it's $13.50 cash or $14 credit card for FHU (including WiFi and cable TV). It is really just 2 parking lots of very level pull through sites, but our site was easy in and out and so level that we didn't bother to unhook for the first time ever. The gentlemen that took my advanced call (to make sure they could fit us) and checked us in is extremely pleasant and helpful, and we didn't use the laundry or bathhouse so I can't speak to them, but they are available. The park is less than a mile off the highway, and the town/park is located in close proximity to a train. Yes it's a bit noisy, but it's also terribly convenient and great for easy overnight.

Missed the main entrance but could easily squirrel around and backup. Clean no frills park with full hookups, level sites and good gravel. Women’s bath and showers are clean and tiled. Cable TV. Stayed at a very reasonable price of $13.50 with PA. Walking distance to El Capitan Hotel.
Definitely would stay again when in the area.
There are a few pickers/stickers that get in your pet’s paws but can mostly avoid them.

This was a good stop for us after spending 8 days in Big Bend. We were able to get laundry done and catch up on lots of work. Good internet, level gravel sites and friendly staff. This was a good stop for us after spending 8 days in Big Bend. We were able to get laundry done and catch up on lots of work. Good internet, level gravel sites and friendly staff. There is some train noise but that doesn't bother us much. There's not much to do in Van Horn with the exception of a few small restaurants and a grocery store but if you dont need much than this is a good spot. Lots of single night stays as it's easy on and easy off both the highway and interstate. Price noted is the Passport America rate.

This is a smallish park with two “areas”. The sites near the office are a bit shorter and more cramped. This is a smallish park with two “areas”. The sites near the office are a bit shorter and more cramped. Once you pass through an opening in the fence there are longer sites which feel a little more open. There is no privacy, no trees. Sites are gravel/grass and kept in decent shape. Our site was perfectly level. There is a nice man that checks you in and then you are free to pick a site of your choosing. The park is between train tracks and the interstate so don’t expect a quiet night. We parked in the area furthest from the office and were not able to use the WII FI. Directv satellite worked fine.
