Our RV GPS and Waze brought us south from Tishomingo via MS-25 to MS-4 to John Rankin Hwy. It’s a more scenic and narrower road than just taking MS-25 south, but there were no issues. We had made online reservations earlier that day for this Army Corps of Engineers Campground (CG) where we get a 50% discount per night using the National Parks Access Pass. We arrived earlier than 2:00 PM when the check-in gate opens, but there was a sign to go ahead and set up and come back at 2:00 to check-in. As we had our site number, we headed directly to pull through site 9 with water and electric (50/30/20 AMP). This was our third time camping at Whitten and we were delighted to find that they had combined site 8 and 9 into one long site. This site still had the old site amenities, which meant that we had double electric pedestals, water spigots, patio areas with picnic table, standup bbq, and fire pit. We were able to adjust our 5th wheel to avoid the several unlevel areas in this very long pull through. As with most COEs, water pressure was good and the electric worked fine. Whitten CG has a lot of mature trees, so satellite is iffy. We had no north shot for our Starlink. However, we got 2 to 3 bars on Verizon and the Mifi worked well for our needs to include streaming. There’s no WiFi in the CG. Site 9 has water view and does not bump up to other sites, which we found highly desireable. During our first stay in 2019, each loop had a shower house with a washer and dryer that we had used. Our last stay was an overnighter and we didn’t need to do laundry, so we hadn't checked those facilities out. This time we were here for three nights and had planned on doing laundry only to find the doors locked. We asked the camp host about the washers and dryers. He stated that the washers and dryers had been closed during COVID and now they were no long functional and weren't going to be replaced. We again enjoyed the trail system through out the CG and recreation area to walk our dogs. The James L. Whitten Historical Center is interesting to go through. There are several fishing piers as well. We came on a Wednesday and were pretty much by ourselves. Both Thursday and Friday campers started coming in around 11:30 AM filling up the CG. The camp hosts didn’t seem to mind the early arrivals and even opened up the office around noon for a few minutes to accommodate check-ins.

This was our first camping experience with the Army Corps of Engineers and we couldn't have been more pleased. Yeah for the discount with the senior Our site was #11 and it back out onto the water which was just lovely. We even had what felt like our own fishing dock. There is a larger one available also. I had heard that one of the boards broke on the deck and we saw the campground crew repairing it the next morning. I would recommend trying to reserve a spot in loop #1 as it just seems a little newer and nicer. We had such a nice time fishing and the sunset was gorgeous. We didn't have much time to explore but i know they have nice biking and running trails along the water and a few short hiking trails. There was also a swimming beach at loop #3 though that was a bit run down. The RV sites all appear to be deep and have electric and water. We needed to level our camper a little. There was a bathroom but I do not recall if they had showers. There is a playground nearby and boat ramp too. We would stay here again.

Just the amenities I'm looking for in a campground. Easy access. Nice spacing. Spectacularly clean facilities. Plenty of trails. Cell service was excellent. Perfect park for bikes and pups. The steps to the beach will need to be replaced soon but not unsafe. This would be a nice spot for an extended stay any time of year.

My husband said the men's showers were really low and no way to adjust them. Like made for children, short people. I had no problem in mine. They both had pressure and hot water. They were clean.
We had electric and water and there is a dump. We did have some TV reception and spotty to no internet. Our site was level.
But would have enjoyed it a bit more if we could have walked the paths without briars.
Nevertheless, we would still stay here again if in the area.
With our park pass, we were able to get the site at half price.

We stayed here overnight. It’s not far from I-22 and it’s very convenient. The campground is well maintained. We have both water and electrical hook ups. The dump station is on the way out. We stayed at site 30 and it has a partial water view. We will definitely stay here again.

AT&T coverage was quite good, with 2-3 bars of 5GE and speeds of ~12 MB/s. We were not able to get DISH coverage on any of the western satellites at our site do to the area being heavily wooded. We were able to get 15 OTA channels with our omni antenna. Our site had an open area next to it so we were able to get decent Starlink coverage, with only intermittent dropouts and speeds of 4+ MB/s, but most of the other sites wouldn’t fair so well.

The very friendly lady at the gate quickly checked us in, and we were off to the first and only loop that was open in early January. We paid $12.50 with America the Beautiful Pass. We proceeded to site 6 with water & electric (50/30/20 AMP) and backed in with no issues. Site 6 is a wide site, so we had no problems parking our F450 after we unhitched. The CG was not very full this time of year and middle of the week though several rigs came in around dusk. The water pressure as is the norm at most COEs, was over 60 psi, so we used a reducer. We got a fair amount of OTA channels and 4 bars on Verizon. Satellite would have been iffy in this site due to the trees. Whitten has really nice trails that weave down through little valleys to and from the river, which were really nice for walking our dogs. We’ve stayed here before, but this time was just an overnighter. This campground is a great base camp to explore the area and especially the Elvis attractions around Tupelo. In addition, Piezons Pizza in Fulton is one of the best pizza places we’ve come across in our travels. We highly recommend this CG.

The camp host was the meanest person I ever heard met. She was not only rude but belligerent for no reason. My friend , who was in the car lane, went to the window to show the online reservation and I was in the camper lane, with the window open and we sadly had the entrance blocked. She had shown her reservation and a car pulled behind her so I asked if I could go on to the site, my friend said yes as again this was a paid for reservation and we were blocking. the woman screamed “NO SHE CAN NOT I DO NOT KNOW WHO SHE IS “. My friend said she is with me and you have my license . But the woman kept yelling. I didn’t leave and the horrible woman just kept us there for a prolonged time because as she said she could do what she wanted to. 2 days later she sent rangers down to the site to explain the rules. The problem was according to the rangers she was not supposed to Even ask for the license and they proved to me this camp ground is run by the worse ever. If you are someone who doesn’t live here and do not know her for better treatment, I advise you to find another place
