This was an amazing spot to stop for the weekend! It is inside the state park, and there was more than 5 miles of dispersed beach camping. It was a lot of fun to sit there and watch the tides come in and out. We parked about a mile out from the entrance on West dispersed camping and only saw a couple people past us. It felt like we had a beach to ourselves.
A volunteer had come by and picked up trash on Friday, so it was significantly cleaner than the nearby wildlife area. By Sunday a few tides had washed up some trash, but nothing major. We found some cool shells too!
Dump site was across the highway from the beach and potable water back by the beach, so not the easiest to deal with.
It was worth the price just for the safe, clean beach to hang out on!

Arrived early afternoon with lots of questions about driving our RV on the beach. The volunteer a at the gate was super nice. Gave us lots of info and made us feel confident about trying beach camping. Drove out to the beach, basically deserted. Parked and settled in for the day. We had heard the mosquitoes were bad, but thought they wouldn’t be an issue mid January after several hard freezes. Took a long walk on the beach. Returned to sip on a cocktail and watch the sunset. That’s when the magic started to fade. The mosquitoes found us! We were bundled for the cold so we tolerated them for awhile. Eventually they got the better of us and we went inside. Thought we’d escaped from the worst. At bedtime we realized our RV was infested with mosquitoes. Not sure how exactly they managed to get in, but they sure had. The next hour was a game of whack-a-mosquito. It was exhausting and made us realize no matter how beautiful, scenic, magical the site was…it wasn’t worth it. Glad we saw it for ourselves, but don’t think I could honestly recommend and we won’t go back.

Facilities on the beach are largely limited to trashcans, but there was a large volume of trash on the beach that had washed up which limited our enjoyment. The dump station is down the road from the main park facility.

There were only a dozen sites with hookups, all reserved when we arrived, but plenty of beach space to spread out for primitive camping. We would have enjoyed it much more if we had not arrived during a crazy lightning storm. Cool weather, friendly rangers, but low cell service and small. Weird to drive through chemical plants to get to AND we found a washed up needle on the beach. Would gladly go again in better weather!
