This area is a federal wildlife refuge that is expanding. Coming from the east near the state park, this beach will extend to the west to get back on 87 without going north. 30 miles of beach drive. Equipment is working on the project but not a problem for dispersed camping. Sandy beach and lots of room. We stayed 2 weeks using the state park for services.

Please don't take "would stay here again" as a real recommendation. We would not make this drive just to go to this beach, but would camp here if we were in the area. This beach is located southwest of Port Arthur, TX. Hwy 82 heads south, then you take Hwy 87 which heads west. The drive takes you through the middle of Sabine Pass oil refineries. Not exactly scenic, but it does get better. Texas Wildlife Refuge is off of 87, and there is a walking trail out over the marsh. The ranger there said we could overnight at the trailhead without being bothered, but being a La. girl, I asked about the mosquitoes, and he confirmed that we would be "eaten alive"(his words). We continued down 87 until the end, where it turns right into McFadden Wildlife Refuge, or left onto the beach. The entrance is marked by two dumpsters and a big pile of trash that someone dumped there. The beach was hard packed, and we had no difficulty parking our 30' fifth wheel. Two big pluses: it is free, and there was no one else there. The water in the Gulf in this area of the La.-TX coast is typically brown, so it was clean for this area. The ranger said that kids from Sabine Pass come on weekend nights to have a fire, drink, and party, but we were here mid-week and saw only one other person. Apparently the parties don't clean up after themselves, and no one else seems to care.
Bottom line on this spot for me is that it is a long drive and not that pretty of a beach. I would hate to drive all that way, and be there when it had many people. However, Sea Rim State Park is just about 1/4 mile before you get to the free beach. We stopped there on the way out, hoping to have hookups for one night, but no spots were available. For the day fee of $6.00 we filled with water and dumped our tanks. It had about 15 hookup sites and lots of room on their section of beach to dry camp. It was much cleaner, and had trash barrels at regular intervals. Camping on the beach there was $13. a night, and it might be worth it for the nicer beach.
