We tried all the sites up Bear Trap North, all 8 sites were taken on a Tuesday. We had planned to then nab a spot at Red Mountain, but then we saw the nearly empty Trapper Springs Recreation Campground across the highway.
This campground is a bit further off the highway with a path down to the river. There is a large covered picnic area, clean pit toilets, water, gravel road and sites, fire pit and picnic table. There is no shade, though. No Verizon cell service. Floating the river was very popular.
Looks like over half of the sites are reservable, and all were reserved for the weekend. Big rig friendly.
The fee is $12, 1/2 off with a senior pass, $5 for an extra car, up to 3 extra cars.

Weekend warrior type crowd. Got quiet after weekend campers left, generator type crowd so you have to be ok with that. If you want quiet, come during the week. Very hot and very little/no shade until the sun sets behind the mountains so plan accordingly or plan to be at the river all day. Great spot to be to float or fish though.
No cell reception with Verizon. Campground was very clean. Trash is pack out. Picnic table and fire rings at each site, water was also available.
