Question about Topsail Hill Preserve State Park Campground

camper-644339 asked on 3/26/2022

How far in advance do you have to book these sites? I’m not finding anything available for the next couple of months.

Answer question

Answered on 1/19/2023:

We stayed here 4 or 5 times when Florida used recreation.gov as a reservation system. We have pretty much given up since they changed to their own state system. It’s impossible to do unless you can catch something last minute from a cancelation.

11 months from date you want to stay there

Answered on 6/26/2022:

I utilized wanderinglabs alert service and was able to snag a reservation. They look for cancellations and send you a text as soon as a spot opens up.

Basically a year ahead! I am a FLORIDA resident and we DO NOT GET ANY TYPE OF DISCOUNT OR BREAK - other than Senior Citizen (65 years old), Veteran of Armed Forces or ADA/Foster family. ou have to look every day, early in the morning and JUMP on any openings you can catch!

Availability of sites is dependent on whether you seek popular dates around holidays or weekends. Our stay during the Christmas holidays 2021 was booked nearly 11 months in advance. If you are diligent going online at 8 am sharp (ET) on the first day your desired date/site becomes available -- you will improve the odds of success. The Florida State Parks specify the following: "New sites become available for reservation at 8 a.m. Eastern time daily. Any new sites that become available throughout the day due to a cancellation are randomly released back into inventory following the cancellation."

Pretty much any coastal Florida state park you have to reserve the moment they come available 11 months out. All the sites sell out almost immediately during the warm months. Gotta plan way ahead!

We haven't been for a few years. We went in January and I'm sure I booked on or near the biggest allowable window. I can't remember if that is 11 or 12 months? Florida parks are very popular and offer a big discount to Florida residents.

Sites are available to book 11 months in advance at 9am ET. Oftentimes they are sold out within minutes. Best bet it to check daily for cancellations if 11 months out is too far.

Hard to get sites here at all. Just have to keep checking the website hoping for something to come available. It worked for us on a couple of occasions.

To be honest, since Covid, to get anything near the beach in Florida you have to do it 11 months in advance because there’s so many people camping. You might luck out and find a couple sites at TopSail but for the most part you have to book them in advance.
