This campground is bittersweet! You need to be willing to put up with the mosquitoes in order to enjoy your stay. Once you get over the mosquitoes, this place is beautiful! We had a great view of Mt. Thielsen and the lake from our campsite. This side of the lake seems to be protected better from the wind, as we notice the lake got pretty rough in the afternoon, however, we had our awning out and didn't have any issues with the wind.
The is a beautiful loop around the lake, I think it was roughly 11 or 12 miles. The loop is all paved, and winds through the forest, and gives you great views throughout the journey. We did it on bikes, pulling our 2-year old in a bike trailer. (very family-friendly)
Will we come back? Yes, with tons of citronella candles, bug spray, a thermocell, and whatever else is need to fend off those pesky Mosquitoes.
Paved road all the way to the campground, and paved throughout the campground as well. There is a great sandy shore to relax on. Without Mosquitoes, this would be a 5/5 star campground. We love this part of Oregon!

We somehow found one spot basically on the lake. Peaceful and quiet mostly because all the sites were reserved, but with no one in them. The mosquitos were fierce!!!! Like maybe some of the worst we have experienced. There is a nice trail around the lake. We hiked the lake part each morning with our dog. Very beautiful. Great Lake ... more

Great Lake to take a boat out on.
Camp host is definitely doing his job! Very nice.

Here's what I liked: The campground is located on the western shore of Diamond Lake. The view of Mt. Thielsen across the blue water from your paddleboard, kayak or boat is lovely. There are plenty of trees for shade and each site has a picnic table and fire ring. There's also reasonable proximity to Crater Lake National Park, local hiking trails, and Umpqua National Forest.
Here's what I didn't like: My site on C Loop was kinda small and uneven, making it difficult to find a level spot for my small tent. There was no evidence of a camp host, as the reservation information on the campsites was not updated either before or during my three day visit, making it confusing if you're looking for a walk up site. There's a public boat ramp in the campground, so there are a fair number of people driving through just to look who aren't even camping. The chipmunks/squirrels are very bold due to people not following the rules on feeding them; they will jump up on your picnic table while you're eating and try to steal food.
I would return to this campground, but with the caveat that it's during the cooler months when it's less crowded.

This is a very nice campground on Diamond Lake. Not the best but not the worst. The roads in the campground are tight and there are low hanging branches everywhere, so beware! We acquired a trailer length scratch and also a broken AM/FM antenna due to these branches. We were there on 9/1 for 3 nights and it was very cold. There was a burn ban in place the first day due to forest fires at the south end of the lake. The next day, the ban was lifted and we spent all day keeping a fire going. Did I mention it was cold? Plenty of fresh water throughout the campground and the pit toilets weren't too bad. There was no camphost while we were there as they were getting ready to close for the season. We had the place to ourselves so weren't bothered by other campers.
