Staying for a few nights in site A21. The park is very empty and quiet. The showers and bathrooms are clean. Our large rig fits wonderfully with plenty of room to stretch out.

We arrived at Tar Camp to relax for a few days on a long trip from TX to IN. The road coming into Tar Camp through Redfield has some low trees that could make contact with taller rigs (dented AC unit to prove it haha). The park has been closed for a few years due to a large flood and just reopened this year. Upon arrival there was NO park staff there to provide rules, direction, or anything. We found our spot (A18) and got set up without any issue. The spot backed up to a grassy area which was roughly 75 feet from the back of the trailer to the edge of the river. Since it just reopened it did not have very many campers there but did have a lot of day time traffic of locals fishing and boating on the river. The bath house was older but was maintained and doubled as a tornado shelter (it is concrete all the way to the roof).
We had a nice 50A site but there were a lot of ants around the site which our dog made the unfortunate mistake of stepping in one of the ant hills.
If is roughly a 30 minute drive into Little Rock, where we went and visited the William Clinton Library,m which was pretty cool.
Overall it is a quite relaxing park in a quiet area but, at least when we went, there was no support staff for the camp in the event of an issue.

Upon arrival we moved from site A-10 to next door’s site A-11 as the power source was reported troublesome and the Corps hadn’t repaired it yet. Seems like a theme here. We were told the one hiking trail is no longer in service due to the bridge needing repairs and the Corps deciding not to do the fix. The bathrooms and showers were dated and not so hot, but they did have deadbolt locks. There are no washers and dryers at this park which is unusual for an ACoE campground. Non-existent AT&T service throughout the park even though we were able to get one bar at our site using the Nighthawk. Surprisingly we were able to stream some late afternoon news followed by an Amazon prime CSNY doc. As nightfall came the service went dark. Early morning coffee time offered again one bar of internet service via the Nighthawk. Bicycling through every campground circle showed “no service”on our AT&T Apple phones. Of course, AT&T’s online coverage map shows 4-G service throughout the area which is typical of the bastardos and also not true.
Watching tugboats pushing barges moving up and down the Arkansas River did prove relaxing and enjoyable. All of the sites along the river offer great views with plenty of room separating you from your neighbors. There is also more than enough pavement for my necessary bike rides to keep not only Bob the dog in tip top shape but my knees lubricated as well. Considering the great views and available long bike rides the park gets four stars even in light of the lack of amenities we are accustomed to having at these typically superior campgrounds. For geezers like us you cannot beat the price of $9 per night for a bit of relaxation, electric, hot water, views, and recreation. Plus it was serenely quiet with only the sounds of birds and barges.
