“Best site on Tally Road”

Reviewed 2/16/2020

Nightly rate: $10
Days stayed: 2
Site Number: 2
Overall Rating

Tally 1 is too close to a commonly trafficked road. Tally 3 & 4, although on the Rio Grande are very silty and dusty.

Tally 2 is perfect. There is a great 360° view of Mariscal Mountain to the east and the valley to the west.

There is a bear box for food storage.

In February it was dead quiet at night. Not even any crickets. Zero light pollution makes it great for star gazing.

“Beautiful Tent Camping in Big Bend”

Reviewed 12/8/2017

Nightly rate: $12
Days stayed: 1
Overall Rating

This was our first backcountry camping experience in Big Bend. We were looking for a place to use our rooftop tent and got lucky, Talley 2 was the last site available for the night. We paid $12 for the camping permit but could only use the site for one night, usually the permit is good for 14 days.

After passing Talley 1, I was even more glad we ended up where we did. Our location was so much better, in terms of traffic and the views. Talley 2 is a smaller site, but it accommodated us (the truck & tent) just fine. It's also situated on top of a hill, so we woke up overlooking a wide spreading valley. The views are truly beautiful and open, but I was thankful to find that there's still a little area with some privacy for "bathroom" use off to the side.
