Looks like they are trying to save money by using fewer staff people. We had to do self check-in because they don't have anyone at the check-in building. We had downloaded the site map so we were able to find our way.
Signage is poorly placed or non existent. The garbage bins were overflowing and looks like the bears or other critters made a mess. The restrooms were in bad shape. In the men's room, one sink our of order, one toilet out of order and only one of 3 showers were working. Lots of peeling paint and lots of deferred maintenance.
We saw only one updated restroom building but the rest looked like it hadn't been updated since the 60's.
If you need a Wi-Fi, don't expect to get a good connection.
On the up side, the convenience store was really nice. However it was closed on Monday and Tuesday.
If this is an example of a Thousand Trails campground, don't think I will join.

The biggest issue we had is the sites are dirt and we were there during snow melt so our entire site was just muddy. It also had broken glass in it which clearly had not been attempted to be cleaned up. We would stay again because it was free for us, but I'd wouldn't pay to stay here personally.

The campground was huge and there were so many people. They were loud all night. People left their trash out over night and then complained when bears came in the site at least two times that I heard throughout the night. We also had someone try to open two of the doors on our car at about 3 am. Good thing it was locked. The only reason I gave this two stars is because it had clean restrooms and showers.

“Crazy high price to dump”
Reviewed 6/5/2022
I live here in South Lake Tahoe and always came here to dump before putting the trailer away. For years it has cost $10 (reasonable). I went to pay a few days ago and was told $35! She said it was to be more in line with other campgrounds. I camp a bit and never have I seen more than $15 charge to dump.

Nightly rate is due to our Thousand Trails membership. This being early May, the campground is not crowded at all. In loop F, it appears to be maybe 25% full. Of course, that will change once Memorial Day comes around. Yes, it is a large campground and it does get very crowded with campers and kids during the summer. But, you are also right next to South Lake Tahoe. This is not a rural, up in the mountains campground. The airport is near, so you will hear occasional jets taking off (not many, as I don't believe there is scheduled commercial flights) and you will hear occasional medivac helicopters (it is right next to a large hospital). Again, you are camping in an urban environment. Even though you are in an urban area, the large pine trees, relative quiet (no highway noise), birds and squirrels (lots), you feel you are in a rural mountain campground. But, you're not! ;>) You're close to the Lake, grocery stores, restaurants, casinos, mountains, Emerald Bay, etc.
They have clean and looks like newly renovated restrooms (3 toilets plus a large shower). We were at a full hookup site and had no issues with our 30 amp power, water and sewer connections. The site was very wide and deep enough to accommodate our 29' travel trailer and 20' pickup. Since our site was wide, we were able to easily deploy our slide out and awning. Just be aware some sites maybe smaller.
Overall, we enjoy coming to Tahoe Valley Campgrounds.
Word of caution, this is a popular campground and with limited campgrounds in the area, it can and will be difficult in getting a reservation. Plan ahead and reserved early.

I can see why there are so many reviews about this park being super busy. The sites are on top of each other. However, we came at the end of October and it was pretty empty. We only had neighbors on both sides for a few days. The bathrooms were clean, good WiFi ($), and full hook ups. We had a great stay and the staff was super friendly.

This place really makes you feel like you are out in nature. We have seen 3 black bears in and around the park. They have been harmless, but surprising to us that are not use to that being the norm.
Unfortunately, we are leaving early due to the smoke and very poor air quality right now. The park has cleared out big time this week with others also doing the same.
The AT&T service for calls has been mostly fine, although 2 bars. Video calls do not work well. We paid for the monthly rate of wifi and it's still slow. We've managed to work remote on it, but no work video calls and sometimes we are at the mercy of very slow downloads. There is a Starbucks and other coffee shops in the area that easily walkable with great wifi.
Bike lanes lead to a bike trail that leads to Pope and Baldwin beaches. Free to those that bike in. Charges if you drive. Great places for swimming!
Asphalt roads throughout the park, but dirt sites so can get a little dusty. Easy to navigate through the trees and close to neighbors but not too close. The tall pine trees help you feel like you have space from others. Prior to the smoke, they had summer nightly activities - movie night, crafts, bike ride, hikes, etc. They also have a tennis court, bball court, laundry that is accessible with quarters or an app on your phone, playground and tent sites.
We're also next to an awesome pizza place - Tahoe Pizza Company - best Gluten Free pizza I've had in a very long time.
When it isn't smokey we will certainly be back.

Mosquitos are bad on the back loop though so pick your poison. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Site 130 is a pull-through will 30amp and full hook-ups. Plenty of room for our 44' 5th whee and our F350 long bed. This park had a great laundry facility, playground, snack/cafe area, volleyball, tennis/pickleball, tetherball, basketball ... and they did great with community events. We participated in trivia, karaoke, candy bar bingo, arts and crafts, and just had a great time meeting other campers.
The check-in process was simpled and the staff that works here are friendly and helpful! If we swing through this part of the country again, this park is a YES on our list!

This campground was great! The sites are tight like all Thousand Trails, but for once it wasn’t a parking lot. The giant trees make it feel super cozy and remote. The laundry facility was large and very clean - they use the laundry app because they do not give change. They had ice cream you can buy and a movie night a couple nights a week for adults & kids. The lake is only 10 minutes away and there are tons of good restaurants nearby! Only 2 complaints: the wifi that we paid for was absolute garbage, so don’t buy it. And the pool was not open and it was hot! With everything opening up, it seemed like they just didn’t feel like dealing with the pool maintenance.
