Great Hiking - beautiful dry camping in Soda Pocket Campground. There is access to dumping and water in Lake Alice campground. Nice park hosts and rangers. We will come back! This is a place to disconnect - with a WiFi extender - I could occasionally send a text but that is it!

Showers and flush toilets at the building near the entrance, which was easily bikeable from the campground. Vault toilets at the campground. Water needs to be boiled.

We arrived on a Thursday evening and was extremely lucky to get an electric site that was just vacated! Lake Alice campground is tight but our site was spacious and shaded most of the day. Plenty of trails to explore just across the road. Fishing and kayaking up the road at Lake Maloya. Hosts were very friendly, helpful and never intrusive throughout our stay. We knew of the boil water advisory before going so we had our fresh water tank full. Ran out of water 5 days in but found a truck stop in Raton that allowed us to refill our tank. River Walk trail near the visitor center be careful... had 2 rattlers within 50ft. Lake to lake trail just past the beaver dam bridge had a mama bear and cubs. Just keep in mind the wildlife in this area can be dangerous and use common sense while hiking the back country! Showers are available across from the visitors center and clean! Camp ground has pit toilets that were also clean and stocked. NO cell service or internet at all and it was wonderful to disconnect and reconnect with nature. We WILL return to this park!

The one thing I regret was not having our kayaks to paddle around in Lake Moya. The Alice Lake campground was clean and we had plenty of room as van campers. The vault toilets were pretty smelly. Otherwise an enjoyable experience.

We based here for a couple days to explore the area. Lake Alice Campground was delightful and the staff was helpful and friendly. We got a nice site with 30 amp power for $14 a night. Hot showers are available at the entrance station. There are a lot of good trails in the park and we found Raton to be a nice town.

Dump station is available but you have to drive through the CG to reach it and it is not in a convenient location even when you do find it. We have a 40' MH and didn't even attempt to drive through but stayed in the overflow. No phone or TV. Short drive toward Ratin and you can get some reception. There are 2 other small CG on top of the mountain but they had not opened yet. The larger lake is nice and the large number of fisherman makes me think it is good fishing.

If peace and quiet is what you're after, this park is for you. It does offer water and 30 amp service, and has restrooms and showers (at the main entrance restroom.) There is a nice little visitor center with a mining display as well. The sites are tight for big rigs, but perfectly doable if you take your time.
This wasn't a destination stop for us, so we were there earlier in the year than we would normally visit a higher-elevation park such as this, and that certainly accounts for us having the place almost entirely to ourselves.
The park has lots of trails, many of which were still too snow-covered or muddy for us to enjoy, but we did manage to get in the Lake Maloya Trail. Although just about every review mentions the bears in the park, we never even saw bear poop much less a bear (not that we doubt they're there.)

Bears are common around camp so put food up and dispose of trash properly.

This place was not on my list but since I was close enough I decided to make the drive, as it turns out this is a great find about 30 minutes south of Trinidad, CO state park and not too far off I25 there are two lakes, a stream with a beaver dam and plenty of trout fishing going on. I almost tripped over a few deer here walking through the campground and on the trails, they are everwhere and not shy. Every site in the lower campground has a bear safe storage box and I did see prints on the hiking trail which indicare this is no joke, bears are in the canyon. In addition to Deer we saw Geese, Ducks the ranger I spoke to said she saw a turkey in the morning. It was a relaxing stay, complete with one of the tent campers playing cello around dinner time, I never did see who it was but thank you for the soothing music! I Highly recommend this campground for the scereny alone which gives you a sense of an earlier time... also, no mobile phone service here at all as far as I could tell on T-Mobile, AT&T or Sprint.
