The didn’t have water hook ups at the site but there’s a spigot across from the campground you can use to fill up.

We stayed at Lake Alice campground for 3 nights. The campsites are close and far from level! However the cleanliness and views made up for any small issues like that. We hiked the Coal Camp trail and enjoyed seeing the ruins of what was once a thriving multicultural community. We paid the $14 dollar electric site fee because we let our NM ACP expire. With pass it’s only $4 dollar for electric site. There are 5 sites with sewer hookups as well. We would for sure stay here again. Even though our stay was spent enjoying rain showers for most of the time. We hiked in the rain and although it was a bit wet and slick it was amazing.

I haven't been to the park yet. Got reservation for tomorrow. Wanted to post this now however...A few reviews here have said this park campground is first come, first served. It is not. Maybe it was but now reservations are thru Reserve America. Click on the website link above. Glad I checked instead of taking people's word for it because there was only one site left.
There is also a $4 'reservation fee', so that $14 for one night becomes $18. Still a great deal.
Also, check-in isn't until 4 pm. Kind of ridiculous if you ask me. Most check-ins are around 2 pm. You can't even enjoy the park that first day because by the time you get unpacked, settled in and eat...the sun's going down.
More review after I've actually camped there...if I don't get eaten by a bear or bitten by a rattlesnake.

We were looking for just a overnight stay, and we could not of chosen better than this state park. We had called ahead to check for availability, but we were told it was "first come first serve". When we arrived the ranger was just leaving for the day, but stopped to give us a map and advised us we must see the best part of the park before we leave.
The spots were quaint and could have everything you need, but we chose for an electric site. That evening and again the next morning we went up to the reservoir to check it out. I would agree with the ranger, don't leave the park without taking the time to visit the reservoir.
We would love to come back and spend several days and hike some trails.
No cell service.

This is a good place to camp.
Lots of trees, rocks, beautiful scenic area.
I stayed for a week in Lake Alice Campground, the other part was not open this time of year so I’m not sure what that is like.
Bathrooms & showers super clean
Whole place is well taken care of.
This was originally part of the Sugarite Coal Mining Camp, it was fascinating to walk through the ares where the camp was there are lots of foundations from the houses. Definitely take the time to see that.
There are lots of birds & wildlife.
This is a place to be in nature, without distractions.
The campground staff is friendly. Pat has been there 16 years and was so helpful talking about all aspects of the park including what life was like for those who lived & worked there. She even wrote a book with lots of stories and old photos.
Loved the town of Raton, met many good & interesting people.
Try 111 Park Coffee Shop, the owner Katie makes you feel so welcome.
If you are there on Sunday, try Mesa Church, a friendly & welcoming place!
And one last thing, I loved it, but there is absolutely no cell service!

Wow, this was unexpected. The state park reservation site shows a map of the two campgrounds available in the park but doesn't indicate Soda Pocket campground is at 7,800 feet (800 feet above the canyon floor) and accessed via 2 miles of steep, winding, narrow, gravel road. Our site was easy to back into and gave us stunning views across the canyon and surrounding mountains. I hoped the elevation would provide at least some cell service but it was 0. Take the opportunity to enjoy the views and nature. We visited in late May so humming birds were active and deer walked through the brush behind our rig in the morning and evening. We understood from the park rangers that bears and cougar live in the area but we didn't see or hear them. The park rangers and camp host were friendly and attentive. The campground was clean and quiet.

Late arrival in the dark, unfortunately map was confusing and unclear in terms of location of horse corral group camping area. Multiple locked gates, inadequate and conflicting signage. Well-maintained and clean bathrooms and showers. In the light of day (upon leaving) we found a much better map at the bathhouse.

We've lived in New Mexico (Alamogordo and Albuquerque) for 30+ years, but had never made it up north to Sugarite Canyon State Park. But on our RV trip back home from Rocky Mountain National Park, we decided to spend a night here rather in the small town of Raton (eight miles away). It's a lovely park, with some steep walls, small lakes and an interesting history. We took a few of the smaller hikes (time was limited) and the one of the Coal Camp was very interesting.
Our 29ft RV barely fit in our site, and there were some tricky branches and overhanding trees to work around. The site was fairly narrow, but I will say we were spread out nicely between the sites. We were at a site with electric (30 amp only) and water (water pressure very low, due to a lower aquafer). The dump station was nearby, but no water available by it for flushing out the tank.
Camp hosts were super friendly. It was a very easy going place. Most of the sites are pretty small, and our "small" Class A was the biggest rig there, except for the hosts' 40' RV. So if you've got a bigger rig, you might have trouble finding a site to accommodate. But for smaller RVs, I think this is a great place to stay. VERY dark and quiet at night!! A lovely and reasonably priced spot that I can easily see spending a long weekend at.
(OH, there is NO wifi and no cell signal. Be prepared to be off-grid completely! You're at least 5 miles from a signal.)
