A bit of garbage throughout and a slight smell from the pit toilets and possibly the lake. The lake is quite dirty, definitely wouldn’t swim in it. Our dog went in about half a foot deep and his fur was green when he came out. Lots of algae. Overall a great overnight spot with garbage, toilets, and covered picnic tables!

I had a gorgeous view of the lake and sunset was amazing. However, it got very, very windy after dark. It felt like I was sleeping inside a kite! My tent blew over at one point and I had to tie it to my car. Then suddenly, the wind completely died around midnight and it was quiet after that.

We stayed in the lower area just above the boat ramp. Paved road ends just past where we camped. Sites down the rock road were nice and we would have stayed down there if staying more than one night.
Lots of truck traffic on US 95 above us, but it is not too annoying. Sites closer to the highway may be a little noisy.
Pit toilets and garbage dumpsters on site.
No water or electricity - as expected.
We would definitely stay again if we needed an inexpensive campsite .

Plenty of space with a great view, we found an undeveloped section (in the same area as the pay station) in between the developed sections with picnic tables, this area has more room for bigger trailers however it was almost full when we got here on a Friday night, the other sections with picnic tables were basically empty had less room but still big enough For large trailers if your carful. Most definitely would stay here again , $6 for picnic tables $ 4 without. US cellular had great coverage here.

Be aware there is no drinking water nearby, Hawthorne is the place to get water. The 76 truck stop in town has a dump station and water, no charge if you fuel up.

We paid for our stay here and noticed the BLM ranger came to collect the funds from the iron ranger. Several campers told us they didn't pay anything for their stay because they read it was free camping. We love coming here on our route through Nevada, and based on what the BLM Website says about Fees, we want to keep this place open. It was a gift to have a place that was open and safe especially for us full-time RVers during this shutdown.
From the BLM website: " User fees at Sportsman's Beach are collected for overnight use of the area under the following schedule: Developed Camp Site: $6/night/vehicle $36/week/vehicle $2/night/vehicle Primitive Camp Area: $4/night/vehicle $22/week/vehicle America the Beautiful Senior and Access Passes are honored.
This lake is an alkali lake and fish cannot survive. Suitable for kayaks or small watercraft. We observed the boat ramp to be rough. The water level is extremely low.

The views are stunning and the campsites are great! Your site is quite a bit above the water but it’s walkable down to the beach. We thought we’d hear noise from 95 but did not. We highly recommend this campsite. If it’s full, there are a couple more boondocking areas right off 95. They’re primitive and do not include covered picnic tables or maintained sites. Also, we did see a couple of non-venemous snakes in the area and tons of lizards.

Quiet with lovely view of the lake. Covered picnic table and campfire rings were very nice. Multiple neighbors in a very busy BML area, but spots are far enough away that they were hardly noticed. Will come back to stop if needing a BML boondocking location.
Vault toilets. Central trash dumpster on the way in. No water nor dump. About 15min to Hawthorne. Great cell and sun exposure.

Originally just stopped for lunch then stayed two nights! Quiet, serene, spots are verrrry far apart, level, well maintained. Bathrooms and garbage but no fresh water. Boat launch. Picnic table, gazebo and firepit at each site. Easy in and out for our 30’ trailer. Highly recommend this place!
