The location of this campground is pretty but the rest of it is awful. As others have said, it's a junkyard full of old vehicles, rotting sofas, and who knows what else. When we arrived we were told the water was being shut off to the shower block because they were going to paint it so no showers and no toilet. Those showers need more than a paint job - they are ancient and dirty. We were told if we wanted we could have a hot shower in the main building. The shower in there was in a dark, decrepit, dirty and very cold room. The sink was Out of Order (see photos). The toilet wobbled on its base. No way were we going to shower in there. The sign on the door to that room saying "You enter at your own risk!!!" tells you everything you need to know. There is no Verizon cell service and we could not get WiFi. If we hadn't already paid up front we would have moved on. We were charged $50 for this sorry excuse for a campground.

This place is a junk yard. I'm giving this campground a 2 star because of the location and beauty of the area. There are junk boats, motorcycles, kids toys and RV's. I think the old Dodge Class C that I wouldn't let my dog live in and hasn't moved in years a hired hand lives in. The owner has not put any money into the infrastructure of this campground in years. I'm assuming retaining all his earnings for retirement. When I spoke to a very nice gentleman on the phone before arriving, I think he was the owner, he didn't give any kind of indication that the pull through area had no water. We had to fill our water tank from a garden hose from the site where the old Dodge Class C was sitting. We were told at check in "they are working on it". The sites are dirt so when it rains you can make mud pies. The tent sites seemed to be decent because they had screening and was next to the creek. This place has WiFi but it is very sloooow, good for checking email but that's all. Oh and lastly, Hwy 64 runs next to this park so there is a lot of traffic noise.

We stayed here for two nights in mid-June, 2020...so grateful to have an RV so we can travel during this time of COVID. We came up from Albuquerque to do some hiking in some mountains (cooler). We had great rain both evenings and sat under the awning and just relaxed after a long day on the trails.
The location of this park is its best feature, I have to say. Nestled right against the mountain. Lots of trees and shade. There is a little stream, which is nice to listen to. Our site was on the edge of the stream, but there was a short, steep bank down to the water, so we didn't really spent time at the water. Site 1 & 2 appear to have easy access to the stream (in case you've got kids who would like to splash around a little). We had a full service site, and everything worked fine. Water pressure is a smidge low, but not a big deal.
The atmosphere here is pretty laid back. There were overnighters and long term and everything in between. Some tent camping, and then all sizes and ages of RVs. The operators were friendly, although as is the case during these interesting times, we had minimal interaction.
As other reviews I've read have stated, there is a bit of junk around the area. It's mostly corralled into separate areas, but no doubt you will note it and perhaps feel just a little bit like you're camping in a junkyard. This is NOT a pristine campground. It's a bit rustic overall. If you have to drive to any of the sites a little further from the office, just watch out for tree branches. They hang pretty low and haven't been addressed by trimming in awhile.
There is NO cell service. Not a bar to be found. And the wifi (free) is REALLY spotty. I had very minimal luck just checking email. Forget about streaming anything. Just be prepared...it was hardly a major issue for us. But if you need good cellular, you'll have to drive up the road a half mile or so.
Although humble in many ways, we were already discussing our next visit here. So we DO recommend Sierra Village...with some caveats.

Hook ups worked fine. All in all ,things were "funky," and I will try someplace else next time in the area. The park is in the forest so it's a nice place to hike from. All our neighbors seemed nice, but I locked everything up before heading out for the day. You can take all of this with a grain of salt since I'm new to RV parks and not sure if this park is the norm or more on the lower end.

This was our very first camping experience with a trailer. We have always been tent campers. This park has both.
The description of the site we reserved had two sets of information. The site we had reserved was not in fact available nor was it right for us. We were patient with the campground and they were patient with us and eventually we ended up in next to the creek with good privacy. Sites closer to the front have better privacy.
Everything worked About the site as to hook ups but internet was very weak. Not able to access any news sites (a plus) nor read social media comments (not bad either). Cell signal nonexistent.
The little creek is pretty. Sounds of the road are present but soon fall away. Sites tend to be tight and access is not easy except for the front ones. The feel of the place is a big plus. Taos itself is near but still closed down a lot due to covid. In these times, this place is a welcome change from the everyday Groundhog Day feel of the times.

I think site 1 and 2 were the best places. We were #2. The stream was beautiful, lots of trees and the people there were friendly. The internet was very weak and the garbage bin was full to the max. I reported to the staff that there was some outsiders that came and dumped their trash there. The bathrooms were clean but at night it was very dark, had to take my dog with me. It was very close to the main road but it didn't bother us too much. The town was just a few miles away that was nice.

Everyone here was super accommodating and the site was tranquil and quiet. There is a small creek that runs next to the campsites that is very relaxing. There is an outdoor sink for washing dishes and a communal fire pit for cooking if you don't have a stove. The bathrooms are clean although the only shower with hot water is in the laundry room. The laundry room had books to read while you wait. This place has WIFI although it can be spotty (works best by the laundry room) but that didn't ruin the experience at all.
If you are looking for a scenic place to camp, this would be it. This place really is a hidden gem.
