We stay at Capulin CG for two nights while exploring Taos NM. It’s 7.5 miles one way to Taos Plaza. It is a lovely location on a small stream. No frills USFS campground just off of US64, so there is some traffic noise. We were able to get our 25ft motorhome into Site No Four. We used all our wheel blocks and were able to get close to level. The driveway is steep for arrival. For departure, we made a right hand turn and made a Uturn at a highway turnout about 1/4 mile east of the campground. This is a dry camp (no running water). The pit toilet was clean. No cell phone service... The first night we had friendly neighbors camped nearby. We chatted and exchanged craft beers. The second day a party of tweakers picnicked at a nearby campsite (they didn’t stay overnight) and left a mess which I cleaned up. This is a good place for tent campers or small RVs. We filled up on propane at the Kit Carson Energy Cooperative on Cruz Alta Road for $2.80 per gallon which we thought was a fair price. For $10 overnight with no amenities and close to Taos, we thought that it was good place.

After driving up to Taos Ski Area and back down unable to find a spot for a camper we started down this road. While this was kind of tight for my in-law’s 5th wheel to get out of our 26’ TT did great. (Turning radius makes all the difference). We arrived around 4pm on a Thursday and had our pick of spots. It filled up in the next few hours and was full both nights we stayed.
My brother said it was the best smelling bathroom he’d every smelled - like cinnamon. It’s very close to the road but that really doesn’t bother us. Some HWY noise if that bothers you.
For the price I’d totally recommend this spot! Distance to Taos is only about 10-15 minutes.

According to the Forest Service website, it’s supposed to be open from May to October; it’s October 3rd. So it seems like if you’re going to list October as being a month that you’re open, you’d at least make it past the 3rd of the month. :-/ The weather has been beautiful - 70s and even 80s during the day; not a hint of snow. Not freezing at night. Closing this early just isn’t cool. :(
We’ll try this again later; I don’t think there’ll be internet, just FYI. We’d lost the internet completely by this point as we drove. We may've had some with our booster, but there was none without it.
