Sheriff Dam Recreation Area

We pulled up to camp for the night, We were looking for the the other camping area, but that address took us here. Area was empty. The sign said the site was Sheriff lake. There was just room to make a U turn (1500 Ram +22 camper) and we were setting up (kids rather reluctantly). Mostly surrounded by open field and corn. The picture makes it look bigger than it felt, uneven ground with a small bank sloping up to the cornfield and down toward water. Previous campers left garbage we gather and hauled out. The grass was higher than it looks in picture. We saw lightning in the distance and checked the radar. A huge storm was headed our way. We didn’t feel at all confident with the road in wet conditions, so we packed up and ran for it! Gravel/dirt road with low spots and dips.

We were camped at the nearby Richland Dam Rec Area and decided to come check out this option for a future visit.
At the beginning of the lakeshore there is room for three larger trailers or motorhomes. After that there are a couple of large ruts in the road and a high clearance vehicle would be recommended.
There is a small dirt boat ramp that could be used as a kayak launch, but the lake isn't that large to make a trip out of it, maybe just to get some exercise.
Once past the boat ramp the space really opens up and there is unlimited room for tenters and small teardrop type trailers.
No vault toilet here like at Richland Dam but you may find you can have this place all to yourself.
