This was a great overnight spot. About 3 miles off I20. There are 4-5 spots each separated by distance and shrubs. Picnic tables, shelters, trash can, and a safety light at most places. No hook ups. Other campers had left it messy, but otherwise it was a great free spot.

Went here Thursday evening after Harvest Host location turned out to be a dog. Beautiful views, peaceful, lots of geese, coyotes at night. Access road was paved but one spot had multiple small deep potholes. Campground is all the way at the end of park, road makes a loop at the end. Rained here yesterday so any sites on lakeside were mudholes. Wooded side had several old asphalt access points that were fairly level. Two sites had picnic tables with covers in addition to fire ring. One other tent camper there.

More secluded than Johnson Park, quieter, with no thru traffic due to the dead-end road. I found an adequate spot to pitch the tent, although no picnic table or fire ring. All of the better sites were already taken. Luckily, the dirt road at my spot wasn't muddy.

We pulled in late around 8 PM. There were a number of people fishing and boating still. A few of the campsites were taken so we looked around and chose what we thought was a tucked-away spot with a covered picnic table, trash can, and fire ring for the night. Like others said the breeze off the lake throughout the evening really kept things cool and comfortable. I noticed when I was leveling the camper that the ground smelled of urine and when I looked around it appeared that someone may have had dumped the liquids in their tank. The spot seemed secluded but we could hear the neighbors to the left and right of us well into the night. My wife also woke up to the sounds of a feral cat of some sort in the middle of the night. As others have noted the sheriff and marshall patroled quite frequently. We took the kids swimming in the lake in the morning, and while we didn't look hard for a beachy sandy area were we did swim was not a "beach" it had trash, sticks, logs all along the shore. But the kids had fun and it cooled us all down.

ABSOLUTELY love this park! We pulled in about 6:00 PM the first Saturday of May. There is a sign that asks for you to stay in designated camping areas. There are about 6 designated camping areas with a old paved road or gravel and fire ring. When we arrived all designated spots were full with tents. We are currently traveling with a 24ft Class C that’s towing and a 38 ft class A that’s towing. Right after we pulled in a park ranger drove by and gave us permission to park in the grass as long as we weren’t blocking the boat dock. Which we were very thankful. We only saw him drive-through once and he seemed pretty laid-back. So I would say you could do this again if all other camping areas are full but just be respectful and don’t leave your trash. The park was quiet, clean, and everyone seem to follow the rules the night we were there. This park is easily accessible off of the highway about 8 miles off of the highway. Close to gas station and grocery store. No hook ups and no restroom facilities. Trash receptacles nearby. Decent cell service. Others and ourselves swam in the lake. Plenty of kayakers, fishers, and boaters to watch in the mornings. If we were are ever in this part of Texas again we will stay for longer!

Quiet. Had the park to ourselves. No hookups. Close to highway 20. Grocery stores and gas nearby. A little remote. Cleaned up a quart jar of nails and screws where we parked. Also a fair amount of broken glass. Recommend a walk-about of site before pulling in.

I found the spot listed on another app as a city park but it had no real details so cross referenced it here on Campendium which did have a number of useful reviews.
This was just an overnight spot on our way to AZ so it being dry camping was NBD and free made it even better. I sent a quick email to the city and they said yes we could park overnight no problem actually up to 48 hours if we wanted.
I studied the location from satellite view and reading the reviews but still wanted to check things out first hand before selecting a site. When we arrived we parked in the lot by the bathrooms then walked to check out the other sites if nothing else to stretch our legs from the days drive.
A bunch of sites would have worked but were not that level and some had some mud/rain runoff issues that weren’t ideal. Also read here about possible fire ants so we decided on the spot in the parking lot near the bathrooms which was large, level and super quite. Also very easy in and out even for our 42’ fifth wheel.
Over all perfect for a drive thru with no fuss.
In a nut shell, great free overnight site close to the I-20 for easy in and out and a quite night sleep.

It was pretty quiet here. Up until 1am this seems to be a kids hang out place. They will come park and then leave. Did have a weird experience here when a vehicle pulled up behind my camper and turned their lights of and stayed there for a few mins then turned their brights on and left. I would come back it’s good for a one nighter.
