There are two group campsites. A total of five vault toilets available. Upgraded trail systems. New signage telling you more about the area. Firewood allowed in fire rings. No water or electricity as this is dry camping only. This is a "pack it in and pack out" campground! There is no trash pickup so you are responsible!
Excellent climbing area along with wildlife viewing and trails.

Seven dollars is for the first come first serve sites. I was here end of September and all the even numbered campsites were first come first served. The first two days I was here I had made a reservation so I’d be sure to have a place to stay and they charged quite a bit more online plus they add a eight dollar service fee. I got the senior discount so it was $15 for tonight when I made a reservation but I only pay seven dollars cash for the first come first serve sites. On Saturday night I stayed in the overflow area. I liked it fine because I don’t need a picnic table or fire pit and the cell service was better there. I was getting one bar LTE sometimes on Verizon but often it would drop down to 1X and no service so it’s really sketchy. I have a booster so I was able to do work on my phone. It’s nice to know I can roll into a place and be assured I’ll have a place to park among nice people and a very nice environment The toilet was very dirty But I only use those toilets for dumping my porta potty. I’ve been here for days and I haven’t seen any sign of a ranger or host. Maybe it’s the time of year or maybe that’s the way it always is but I’m sure somebody must come and pick up the money in the box.
The campsites are mostly small and designed for tent camping or a van camping.

Very much enjoyed our stay. The road was paved right to the entrance, sites had fire pits and picnic tables. We didn’t try the drop toilet. Super quiet overlooking a meadow and redrock mountains all around. Enough other people to not feel completely isolated.

This campsite is in a beautiful setting up against some beautiful red cliffs that are used by rock climbers. So if your into climbing it's a great spot. The campsites are well defined and ours was nice and private. The flies and ants are bad as the areas also a cow pasture (no cows while we were there hut evidence of them!) The road that the campsite is on is called The Shelf...if you drive north from campsite (do not bring your trailer!!!) You'll drive 14 miles on a Cliffside dirt road through canyons and gold mining camps (guys in tents...panningnin the river...not corporations!). This road leads to Cripple Creek. One of the places gambling and casinos are legal in Colorado. We really loved it but it took us 1.5 hours to drive the 14 miles! Anyway we enjoyed our time here...oh there's no water or electrical hookups so come prepared. We drove about 13 miles in from Canon City...road was paved but a little rough. There were 30' trailers in the campground. Our 18 footer was easy to get in and out.
