Beautiful state park. Springs swimming area is walking distance to the campground. Speedtest from Verizon connection was 70 Mbps download and 8 Mbps upload.

We camped in the primitive area.
Site 120 had good shade. The rate includes swimming in the beautiful springs. The showers are not working well and need maintenance. The weekend was pretty busy and the sites are not private. During the week it is not crowded.

The previous reviews made me nervous but we called and they had first come first serve sites available (sites 65-102 are walk ins only). Full hook up was wonderful. Bath houses were all clean and water was hot enough to take the chill off. Staff was friendly and prompt when prepping vacated sites. We walked to the Salt Springs everyday to watch the wildlife. Hoped to see manatees but didn’t during this visit. The squirrels at the campground are pretty tame and will get into your food if left out. Be advised.

We are at site 4 and I was worried after reading the above review saying this was such a bad site. It’s paved and level. The sewer hookup is great as they use stainless steel sinks as a basin around the hookup.
Area is very quiet and nice and dark at night.
Also the staff is very friendly and courteous so far.

Having visited Salt Springs many times over the years for picnics we were excited to finally stay in the campground. Unfortunately, it was not a good experience and I doubt we will ever be back.
I'll start with the good. The amenities were nice and the campground was extremely clean. The sites were a decent distance from each other and access roads throughout the campground were easy to navigate. The springs are absolutely gorgeous and the picnic areas are great for family events. The problem for us started when we arrived at Site 4. To say that it was not level would be an understatement - it was not even close. We had noticed several other rigs with their tires completely jacked up off the ground when we were driving in. We ended up the same way just to get the fridge to function correctly. When we asked for a different site the office attendant pointed to a hand-written sign on the desk that stated that there would be no switching sites under any circumstances. This was just the first rude encounter we experienced with the staff during our stay. Over the course of three days we watched and overheard conversations as the staff threatened to kick people out of the campground for this smallest of infractions - many times with no warning or friendly reminder to adhere to the rules.
On our second day the storms arrived. With each batch of rain we'd end up with a river running under the entry door that was at least a foot deep - we could not come or go from the RV due to the amount of water. One storm caused enough flooding at our site that the storage compartments in our Class A had standing water in them. We also noticed that many of the sites around us - that were level and dry - had no one in them. Again, we went to the office, explained the situation and asked for another site. The reply was a stern, "You've already been told no." By the time we left the following day no one had ever used those campsites.
Many people love this campground and give it high marks. Our intention was to rank it high also, I realize that campsites that are not level are part of the RV experience. I also know that rain and flooding is part of the unpredictability of camping. However, the rudeness and "power trip" behavior of the staff just left us with no desire to go back to Salt Springs - even for a picnic. Everything in me wants to give a 1-star review, but I also want to be fair. It is a beautiful campground and I would imagine that folks with level sites (or no run-ins with the staff) have a great experience staying there.

We camped in the rv section with full hookups. There are some nice shade trees but really no privacy among the sites. But the sites are generously spaced and level. The town of Salt Springs has two gas stations, a good laundromat, and a couple of restaurants.

The sites are very close to each other so there is no privacy. We prefer to stay at State Parks or COE (Army Corps of Engineers) campgrounds. The trees are gorgeous with the Spanish moss hanging. There are tons of squirrels on the grounds. There are black bear and alligator but we did not encounter them. At the springs, there were around 20 buzzards hanging around.

I could find little to complain about and cannot understand anyone giving this place a 2-star review. Some sites are a little close together but your backyard neighbor is 20 yards away giving a nice open area between the rows where the kids can play. The campground seems to have plenty of workers and they do a good job keeping the place clean. The only drawback I found was the noise from a surprisingly busy Hwy 19 and the occasional siren from the nearby county fire station. As you might expect, there is not a lot to do or see outside the recreation area but Saint Augustine is about an hour away and makes a nice day trip.

If this was a commercial RV park, it would deserve high ratings for beauty and being well run.
But totally not what we come to Forest Service Campgrounds for.
It's close to the main road, so lots of highway noise. The sites are well spaced, mostly - but absolutely no site separation. No privacy whatsoever. We were even given one of the 'best' walk-in spots in the bottom corner with a bit of shade.
I guess if you're wanting a 'Glamping' experience and to pretend you're out in nature with your full hook-ups - you might enjoy this experience.
But it was not our cup of tea, at all. And super pricey for having no nature or privacy around you. And a bit of a walk to get to the springs itself.
Extremely disappointed in yet another example of privately run concessionaires running our national treasures, and jacking up the prices for profit.
