Although this is a dispersed camping area there are 3 obvious "sites", the 2nd and 3rd most distant from the paved road are obvious as you near the end of the dirt road. The closest one to the paved road becomes obvious once you turn around to head back out (take the fork to the left instead of following the road you came in on). You can see all 3 as large dirt patches on a satellite view along with the roads that connect them.

Pleasant spot on side road (signed Sagehen Meadows) from amazing Aspen grove. Quiet; only two other campers, well spread out. Enjoyed early start to catch sunrise on Mono Lake off dirt road below Mono Mills (10 min away), followed by coffee (and WiFi) in Lee Vining at Latte Da. Hwy 120 is beautiful drive as well.

Did get a few scratched up the side of my rig getting in past some thorny bushes, so watch you don't brush past any as the track gets quite narrow. Will stay here again.

Just loved it out here for a night. Very quiet and isolates. The pit toilet is non-operational.
Really beautiful. I say go.... Wonderful.

Decent FS road that's usually graded provides good access. Fall colors are great here too because of all the aspens.
There is a pit toilet
Best of all, it's FREE! And very rarely used!!

Sagehen Meadows Campground is a great place to camp if you are into boondocking. The site did not appear to have been used for a long time with grass growing in the campfire ring. A Forrest Ranger who stopped by (surprised that someone was camping there) said the site was sometimes used by hunters in the fall. This is a completely unimproved camp site with nothing but a dilapidated outhouse, quiet, big beautiful trees, stars at night, animals, solitude, and mountain air. My one disappointment in our stay there was that I was looking forward to standing outside, bare-assed naked, and using the outdoor shower; but the temperature dropped into the low 40’s and I wimped out.
Sagehen Meadows Campground is a reasonable location for day tripping to nearby Mono Lake, Lee Vining and Tioga Pass. If you need to communicate with the outside world, you might try smoke signals because your cell phone won’t be working.
Sagehen Meadows Campground is about two miles back a narrow dirt road off of CA 120. The site itself is not real big or flat and we had to do a bit of maneuvering to get turned around and onto an area that was flat enough. Except for the dilapidated outhouse, the site was clean. If what you are looking for is quiet and solitude, Site Quality is 5 stars. If you are looking for an improved camping spot, Site Quality is 0 stars.
