Overview of Saddlehorn Campground
A park entrance fee is required in addition to the camping fee.
Be aware that there are three tunnels on Rim Rock Drive. There are two tunnels on the west side and one on the east side of the park. Vehicle lights and/or bicycle lights are required while traveling through the tunnels. Maximum tunnel height is 16 feet at the center line.

Stayed here two nights in mid March 2018. Easy to find. Bathrooms were clean with actual flushable toilets. Check the official website to see what loops are open. In the off-season (now), only Loop A was open, which is first come first serve. Site 16 was flat and near the restroom. I just backed in with my truck (tent only). Some sites are pull through that could fit a smaller rig. When I arrived midday, there were only a few people but it started to fill up near the afternoon.
WATER IS ONLY AVAILABLE DURING THE SUMMER. I would assume there’s somewhere near the visitor center to get water but I can’t be positive since I had water with me already so didn’t need to fill up.
Great location because you’re near an end of Rim Rock Drive. Not many other camping options nearby unless you stay closer to Grand Junction

I stayed just one night at this campground in early November 2016 while headed west to Utah. The campground was really quiet with only a few other campers. I didn't see or hear anyone from my site - yay! I was camped in a tent. Many sites had vegetation between them adding some privacy. The weather was great, not too hot in the day not... more
I stayed just one night at this campground in early November 2016 while headed west to Utah. The campground was really quiet with only a few other campers. I didn't see or hear anyone from my site - yay! I was camped in a tent. Many sites had vegetation between them adding some privacy. The weather was great, not too hot in the day not too cold at night. A beautiful place to watch the sunset and sunrise and many short hikes to see amazing overlooks just a short distance away.
Edit: I stayed here again in summer 2019 for several days. Again it was great! While other parks are packed this time of year, this one was still about half full. Nice and quiet with lovely clean bathrooms. It gets hot in the daytime but if you have some kind of awning it is OK in the shade.
Also check out the town of Fruita. Very cute! Grand Junction is a good place to stock up. And if you have a fear of scary cliffs or are driving a big rig you might want to enter the park from the Fruita side as the Grand Junction way is a longer and curvy drive.

This is a typical NP campground. Nice, quiet, some nice views. Most of the sites aren't large enough for big rigs. We have a 40ft fifth wheel. There were only a few sites that were good for us but we did find one. There are nice bathrooms, drinking water spigots, recycle bins. There is not a fill station or dump station. The camp hosts Ron and JoAnn were wonderful.

Space 42 is a great location with a very large pull through driveway. Nice spot for tent, too. No Firepit. Only charcoal fires in grill. Nice bathroom with autoflush toilets. Potable water. The view on loop B is breathtaking. However, be prepared for crazy weather in the summer months. We stayed in early August and both days got hit with thunderstorm. Second day worse than the first. Then the winds! Crazy!
That is the reason I would not stay here again. Campers were quiet but the weather sure kept me awake.

We had no problem getting up to the campground, but the road from Fruita is not for the faint of heart. The park service website says 40 feet max for an RV, but there is no way a 40 foot RV would fit here. We are 25 foot trailer and 19 foot truck and there were only a few sites that we thought might work for us. We pulled in here on ... more
We had no problem getting up to the campground, but the road from Fruita is not for the faint of heart. The park service website says 40 feet max for an RV, but there is no way a 40 foot RV would fit here. We are 25 foot trailer and 19 foot truck and there were only a few sites that we thought might work for us. We pulled in here on a Wednesday and spent at least a half hour trying to figure out which of the first come first serve sites would fit us. Thankfully no one else was here so we could kibbitz to our hearts content. Finally settled on backing into site 10 in line with the road so we would be sure we could hook up to leave. We wound up perfectly level side to side, but had to lower out front end as far as it could go to get level front to back. We used all our chocks and our tire chock that goes between the tires to ensure we would not roll. But we loved the view from our rear bedroom! The sunrise was magnificent and the lights of the city in the night were wonderful. There were only 2 other campers in our loop on Wednesday, but when we got back to camp on Thursday there were lots of people. Still it was quiet and enjoyable. The bathrooms were new, clean and modern. The rim drive was enjoyable, we just wished there was a shuttle service as most of the hikes were long one way. 2 bars LTE ATT service.

We loved it. Beautiful warm days that our solar worked well. Nice views of the area. Not crowded at all. Sites were not level, and after fiddling to make one work, we changed to #22, which was much more level. We enjoyed the hikes, and the ranger led "stroll" was especially nice. She was full of information and told wonderful stories.... more

We enjoyed the hikes, and the ranger led "stroll" was especially nice. She was full of information and told wonderful stories...definitely worth it. The bathrooms were very clean. We were happy after reading other reviews, that it was so quite...no generator noise, no kids.....September is a great time to visit. We enjoyed seeing the big horn sheep. Bugs were not an issue.
We had good cell phone reception, as well as wifi. Although we did not need it we had tv reception.

It's crowded, with screaming kids during the day, noisy mountain bikers at night, and generators blaring in the morning. The views are nice, bathrooms are great, and the LTE is fast, but not worth $20/night. Ignore the signs about low clearance when you come in, signs say 10'6", but this is from CDOT, there is actually 16' of clearance... more

This is your standard National Park Campground. Nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about either. Obviously if you are looking to explore the National Monument this is the place to camp. The trails just outside the campground are worth your time so don't miss out. The horizon at night is beaming with the city lights of Fruita... more
This is your standard National Park Campground. Nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about either. Obviously if you are looking to explore the National Monument this is the place to camp. The trails just outside the campground are worth your time so don't miss out. The horizon at night is beaming with the city lights of Fruita and Grand Junction.
Bathrooms and fresh water (via filling jugs) are available, but there is no dump station in the park. Instead, there is a free dump station at the Colorado Visitor's Center in Fruita just off the interstate.
When arriving, you have a short but sever climb from Fruita to the campground. Expect tons of bicyclists along the route, which you will be unable to pass thanks to the blind corners. There are a few tunnels with 10' 6" limits as well, so super-large rigs may want to think twice.

If you want to camp in Colorado National Monument, this is the campground to do it. There are plenty of pull along sites that are very nice with tables and fire rings. Water is available near the camp host as well. There are restrooms with sinks but no showers. We stayed here for two weeks while sorting out some Airstream troubles. ... more
If you want to camp in Colorado National Monument, this is the campground to do it. There are plenty of pull along sites that are very nice with tables and fire rings. Water is available near the camp host as well. There are restrooms with sinks but no showers.
We stayed here for two weeks while sorting out some Airstream troubles. The campground is quite during the day, and has daily turnover. Seem's most folks only stay for a night. The park did seem to fill completely up on the weekend, so come early.
The sites are not all level. The campground is on a hill, but offers breathtaking views of Fruita and the surrounding mountains. The visitors center and a few hiking trails are all within a short walk.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay here.
LTE with a booster and omni antenna was 15mbps down with Verizon.
