The campground roads were asphalt as well as the site pads.
Therefore most of the campers here were in RV's, some of them very, very large rigs. And lots of generators running all at once. Yes, it was mid Sept and starting to get cool at nights. They ran those generators from 3 or 4 pm until "quiet time" I think 10pm. Not very peaceful at all. I probably wouldn't stay here again because of this reason alone.

This campground is about a mile from Twin Lakes, just off the road. Even though it's close to the road, there wasn't much noise. The sites on the creek tend to be smaller and closer together. The sites away from the creek tend to have more room around them. The north loop is primarily first come. Recreation.gov showed the north loop with Xs, rather than FF. A call to the local office said they "weren't available" which made no sense so don't rely on the website for anything definitive. The south loop has sites a bit closer together.
The camp host Donna was very attentive and worked really hard to keep the area tidy. Flush toilets, water spigots for RV fill ups, trash and recycling containers. There are a lot of trees which would be nice during warmer weather. We were there in late May when it was chilly so wished for fewer trees. Crags campground towards the lake is more open if that is more your thing. There is a dirt path to walk to the lake, about 1.3 miles away. No dump station nearby. Cell service is non existent but if you drive a few miles back towards Bridgeport, there is a pullout area by the Hunewill Ranch that has good service.
Beware the expansion joints on the campground roads. They are worse than speed bumps. In late May the tiny bugs were out in force, biting our scalps.
Cindy would stay here again

There are vault toilets and no showers (about 2 minutes down the road is a shower & laundry—$3 for 7 minutes). There are beautiful trees and the grounds are well maintained and clean. Bear lockers are provided and wildlife abounds including birds, deer, and chipmunks. If you camp here, site 43 and the one next to it are the best! If this campground had showers it would be 5 stars!
