“Side Road In Cow Pasture”

I turned left at the fork which is near the coordinates. That side road winds up a small hill and near the top is another side road. I parked my Transit van next to that second fork, facing west. It was about 2.4 miles from 289. It wasn’t quite level but good enough for me. Lots of cows. Very quiet.

There are no solid spots. At the fork are maybe 2-3 possible flat spots next to the road but you need a truck with trailer or a 4x4 van. Near a gas well, obviously an old drilling site where the office and housing trailers would have stood. Now, just quiet and solitude in the high desert sage. We stayed one night in early Sept., and had a few pickup trucks go by in the morning. Other sites would be available for tenters or campervans. We were towing a 28’ Airstream.

“Quiet and Solitude in a Gas Field”
Reviewed 9/3/2022

Agree with previous reviewers on the quiet, solitude open views of high desert and dark sky. This is actually a gas field on BLM land, with roads maintained to gas wells. The level spot we’re camping on was probably the site for office and living trailers when the nearby well was drilled. Still, a fine site which we enjoyed.

Dispersed camping, there’s no sign that makes it clear when it stops or starts, so we just followed someone else’s tracks who camped here. Cell service is okay, orange cliff sides, and lots of sand so we careful if you stay during a storm or longer than a night. Good stay over right off the highway. Cactus everywhere so watch out.

Like previous post it is a beautiful location and very quiet. The cliffs with the red color and just the vast expanse of the area is very refreshing. Word of caution. Like previous post it is a beautiful location and very quiet. The cliffs with the red color and just the vast expanse of the area is very refreshing. Word of caution. If it's raining be careful driving too far in as the road gets as bad as if snow was on it. We camped at the "Y" of the two roads and there was a easy place to pull off. Once we got setup it started raining hard and made the road very slippery. There is a site right when you pull off the highway. We didn't have AT&T were we camped but the turn off from the highway we had a great signal to send pictures etc. Anyway check it out and enjoy.

Reviewers are spot on. Beautiful views. Solitude. Breezy so cool enough to enjoy. Enough of a signal to stream tunes while taking in the stars.

Wide open spaces, beautiful rolling hills, and no one around. We followed the coordinates 1.5 mi in end stayed right before the fork in the on a level spot that had obviously been a campsite. So happy to have found it.

It was honestly amazing. I haven’t seen stars like that in a long time. We also took a previous reviewer’s advice and dumped in Baggs at a free (donation) dump site. Really an amazing free stop if you don’t need hookups.
