“Beautiful area but !!!!!!”

Overall Rating

Stayed 4 nights, 2 of them were weekends. Used to be free and we loved this place. Now with the fee it is really not worth it. There are 6 small sites, a vault toilet and nothing else. For the price you would think there would at least be a trash recep. We probably would have stayed for at least 10 days but not worth it anymore. There were no other campers during our stay probable because of the price. There are no trees which was good for our solar panels. Used to see a lot of Chipmunks but they seemed to have moved on to. There are a lot of Hummingbirds, and saw a Bear. It is a beautiful area. There are 2 bigger campgrounds a couple miles down the road with the Rio Grande river running thru them with about the same price with more amenities. 1 even has water. There are a lot of side by sides and off road vehicles that that use this area. There is Road Canyon Reservoir very near but I understand it is a State area which requires a fee to use. Ordered our nonresident ATV sticker for $25.25 on 7/15/24 and today is 8/25/24 and we have still not received it and we are already home in Oklahoma. Rates are $26 for weekdays and $28 for weekends.

This campground was free, but as of this year is fee based. The information board states $27 a night. I personally have never stayed at this location specifically. But I'm familiar with it. Not sure what you get for your $27. That's a bit high for no amenities. There is a vault toilet that is rarely cleaned, and old dilapidated picnic tables.
