Sunrise and sunset at Sierra del Carmen were spectacular!
Store was fully stocked and every thing was open.

Big Bend is beautiful. The campground was quiet, however the slots are five feet apart similar to an HEB
parking lot. Getting out of the parking lot is difficult u are practically at the mercy of ur neighbors. The facilities
such as the showers and toilets are unavailable and need updating. The picnic tables are worn out and located
behind one's trailers and not readily accessible. With the Bouquillas crossing closed there are limited choices to see and do in that locale. The camp store was very expensive and limited on supplies.

First time visit to Big Bend. I agree with Vmcdonald’s comments in a previous post and wanted to add a few more comments around the store at the RV park. Several items were either “Out of Service” or not working (some due to COVID) including the pay phone (very limited, if any phone service in the park), soft drink machine outside, showers, washing machines, and the unleaded gas pump (although the diesel pump was operational). The pumps at Panther Junction (20 miles away) are 24 hour pumps and they are working.
We also arrived just after the Chisos fire had started and is still continuing. Unfortunately the basin road and all associated trails, campgrounds, lodge, etc. are closed. We were really looking forward to exploring that part of the park.
The park is extremely beautiful and rugged. Just pay attention to your fuel levels and be aware that gas may not be available at all times.

The other reviews are accurate but let me add some additional color since we went more recently. I will start by saying that this is a great area of Big Bend but know what you are getting into (call ahead) and plan or adjust your stay accordingly. It is hard though because you typically have to book so early and you don't know what you will encounter in some cases.
If you stay in the full hook-up area (Trailer Village) you are basically in a one lane parking lot with no shade. We booked months in advance and when we arrived we were disappointed to learn that the Daniel's Ranch and Hot Springs hike were closed as they are concerned people will congregate in the springs. The showers and laundry were also closed to Covid. We traveled all over the US during Covid and most parks don't close those so beware. We were in a 23 foot van so it wasn't as convenient as the larger RVs with larger showers.
Cell / Wifi covarge: We had AT&T and there is no coverage or wifi but we didn't expect there to be any due to the remote location.
Weather: It is very important to know that this part of Big Bend is typically 20 degrees hotter than the Chisos Basin campground in the mountains. When we arrived (end of March) it was 95 degrees. The winds were crazy as well. A few days / nights we experienced up to 25 mph winds so it was difficult to sit outside.
Location: Just a reminder as I'm sure you are all looking at maps but this area is 30 miles from Chisos Basin where there are hikes such as Windows, Emory Peak, etc. While we were there, they were closing the road to Chisos Basin Monday-Friday and some Saturdays from 8-11 and 1-3pm for road work. We went on Sunday and had no issues but we heard the delays during the other days were pretty bad. If you want to visit Santa Elena Canyon which is gorgeous, you are 63 miles away.
My recommendations: I would only come to this area for a couple nights especially if they still have hikes closed due to Covid. I would stay in the in the campground without full hookups (which is just down the road) from the Trailer "parking lot" and used the dump station. At least there is shade in that area and it feels like you are camping versus staying in a Walmart parking lot. If you can't get into Chisos Basin then try Cottonwood as an alternative on the other side of the park.

If you’re considering staying in this RV campground, you’re intrigued by/know about Big Bend. The beauty and vastness of the landscape will most certainly make your drive and campground stay worth it! That being said, you’re coming to experience the park - not the campground. As long as you manage your campground expectations, then you’ll thoroughly enjoy your time at Big Bend.
The campground is a parking lot with water, electric, sewer hookups and picnic tables in the grass/dirt area behind each spot. (Note: This campground and village store is NOT run by the National Park service. Rather, it’s run by a private management company.) The management company doesn’t active manage the RV campground, thus, there are several issues to take into consideration.
1. Ants. The campground is an easy food and water source for ants. If you travel with permethrin, you can handle this issue yourself (to a degree).
2. Stormwater Drainage. There is none. In the off-chance you experience a rain while you are here, the water will pool in the middle of the parking lot getting 12” high in places. There is nowhere for the water to run and no drain for it to escape through. Standing water combined with nearby sewage doesn’t make for pleasant smells.
3. No privacy or real room to sit outside. After all, you’re in a parking lot. If you take advantage of all the park has to offer, this won’t be an issue. You’ll be out from sunrise to well after sunset.
If you have Boondocking capacities, I’d consider those sites. Either way, don’t let the RV campground be a deterrent... Experiencing Big Bend is a must!

We have great views of the sunrise and sunset from over the mountains and, oh did I mention the wildlife we saw within 1/2 mile of where we were parked. Yes there were birds, roadrunners and nesting Black Hawks. We also saw coyotes almost daily, a group of javelinas right down the road and to top it off, we watched a bobcat one morning. He drew a crowd and didn't care, when he was tired he left.
Each spot has full hook up with 50 amp electric and the only campground in the park that does.
There is no cell service but I was able to get park WiFi, spotty at best and slow, but worked for me. You are also in easy driving distance from everything in the park to do and see. There is a store, gas, very small laundry area and pay showers. We didn't need to use, but they seemed clean.
We had nice weather, though a few days were rather warm and it did get windy at times. Come before end of April, still green and colorful.
The other enjoyable part of this campground is the community it creates, we met a number of really nice people during our stay, we all had something in common, visiting a national park.

The reservation system has changed for Rio Grande Village RV Park.
Rio Grande Village RV Park is the only campground, within Big Bend that has full hookups. It is an authorized National Park Concession.
432-477-2293 which is still shown on the websites, Campendium and theirs, is not it anymore.
877-386-4383 in the video is not it anymore.
855-765-1324 option 1, is the number you are seeking to make a reservation at this RV Park. The greeting will say Chisos Lodge Reservation desk, - they need to update that too, but you are in the right place. I had to wait 8 minutes when I called before a human picked up.
