“Epic campsite - Isolation, Views, Space”

Reviewed 1/2/2024

Nightly rate: $10
Overall Rating

K-Bar 2 is about a mile and a half down a gravel road. Rec.gov recommends a 30’ max trailer and we agree - anything longer you’d have trouble getting turned around. Our 27’ fit just fine. You don’t need high clearance, but it’s a good idea. 4WD is a must if there’s rain.
Dogs are allowed, but they must stay within the campsite or road and be under control. The rangers warned us that there were active mountain lions and a German Shepard had been killed recently. We heard coyotes at night as well.
No generator use is allowed, so solar is a must for a multi-day stay. It can be windy, but we set up east/west and it was fine.
All said, this may be our favorite campsite ever. The star gazing is amazing and it is totally quiet at night. Beautiful sunsets behind the Chisos mountains. Centrally located and the perfect way to experience the park.

We stayed one night, it was beautiful and quiet. It was rather windy. The sunrise and the stars were fantastic even with some clouds.
