Site 6 is the best. Our truck camper fit perfectly with the creek just outside our door. Perfect for sleeping. This is first come, first serve. When we arrived on a Friday in July around 7 pm, there were only two sites open. We got up early the next morning to ride our bikes into the canyon just down the road. It was amazing and we only encountered one other person. For $5, this campground can’t be beat!

The road from the highway is treated gravel (no dust) and in excellent condition. We paid $2.50 with Annual Interagency pass. We stayed in #1 across the road. There was nice shade under the pavilion. The vault toilet was about 100 ft down the road. No trash. The loop by the river would be tight for a bigger rig, so do a walk-through before driving it. There's trash and recycling down past the bridge (where it becomes National Park, Curecanti?). Ignore the sign about this road being bad. They've fixed it since whenever the landslide was. Our 5th wheel was maybe a bit tall, but a TT or medium rig would be fine down this road and there are some nice riverside sites. At the end of the road, there's about five tent sites and a toilet. The path down the river past here is very scenic. There were lots of ticks though in early June. We didn't get in the river as it was high water, but is probably nice in the summer after snow melt is over.

Campground is split into two areas on either side of the road, with two campsites on the right as your'e driving in and several more on the left. The sites on the left are on the river. Price can't be beat! I was in the area because I wanted to do a hike in the Powderhorn Wilderness nearby.

We stayed here July 20th and there was no one around. Right on the water, fishing. Took our motorcycles to the back roads. No cell service. Best get away. Bring bug spray!. Listening to the river flow was awesome.
