Camping at Rambling Redwoods offers a unique experience, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in nature, surrounded by the majestic Redwoods. The campground provides a variety of amenities, including a playground and horseshoe pits, as well as a dog wash area for your furry friends. Well-maintained bathrooms and showers featuring good water pressure—a welcome comfort in the great outdoors. The availability of a laundry room adds a touch of convenience to the rustic camping experience. We were in site 31 which was a very level dirt pull-thru and parked our truck between two huge trees. My only negative thought is that the back of the site only had a couple of logs separating sites 31 and 30. I may not have felt this an issue had the people at site 30 kept their dogs on a leash which would have prevented their three dogs from coming over and trying to attack my dog. Yes, the park has a leash rule. When planning a trip to the Redwood State and National Park, mapping out your destinations is crucial, as some attractions can be quite a distance from the campground.

However, the redwoods are breathtaking which was enough for us. We used dog bath but it had no warm water so we carried some in. Tsunami sirens sounded on Sunday night. Just testing I guess but a little alarming since we didn’t know what they were for. There is a $20 extra fee to really reserve the space you reserve because the automated program can reassign you.

Park suffers from low voltage. Great location for the Redwood State Parks. If you have a National park pass, you don't need a state park pass for Jedediah Smith, Del Norte or Prairie Creek SPs. Easy access off Hwy 101, signs lead you in. Check-in at office for info. If office is closed, they hang your packet on the door. Our site was fairly level. The laundry room was good with 3 washers and 3 dryers, all working. Electricity is low voltage, 118 volts at its best, averaging 114-115 with no load. We tripped our Watchdog several times with our microwave (voltage below 104v). It was cool when we were here so we didn't try our AC, but I don't think their electricity would run an AC. Site 34 was great except for the electric. Sewer connection was about 30 feet from the sites parking area, had to use the dump station. AT&T cell service was great, no booster needed to stream. Got some local HDTV channels.
Pros: Informative packets for the local area at the office. Most sites are separated by bushes and redwoods. Great AT&T cell service.
Cons: Office is rarely open. Closed for two days while we were there. Received a package on Tuesday and couldn't get it until Thursday. There is an emergency number. Electric service is iffy. Road in is dirt and a little dusty. Unsightly trailer park on entrance road takes away from the scenery. Some sites are in the open and close together. Some road noise especially if you are closer to the highway.

It was quiet here, and close to Jedidiah but otherwise? We didn’t love it. But honestly I saw nothing better in our driving around the area so maybe this is the best? If so, yikes! The WiFi was an actual joke. We had no WiFi whatsoever in our space, and only once we stood in front of the office could we log on to any of the WiFi networks. And weirdly - they give you like 8 different networks to try. Some couldn’t be found, others said I had the wrong password, despite typing it in twice! Thankfully we could hotspot with our phones and jetpack. There was decent cellular service in our space but as we got to the front of the park it waned, and going up and down the 101 into Crescent City was a dead zone as well. Obviously not the park’s fault but just something to note if connectivity is a concern for you. There was cable laid out in our space. Apparently they USED to offer cable access but the instructions were blacked out on their park map/rules sheet. I hooked up some cable and scanned for channels in our rig just to see and there were three channels but were of poor visual quality. My wife did laundry and said it was ok. Never saw any staff - didn’t see anyone at check in. Playground was meh. Just kind of a weird place. I don’t know - maybe I’m too picky. But based on reviews I expected more. Perhaps I need to lower my expectations!

Our second stay and we enjoyed it again. Much busier this time around with a nearly full park. Banana slugs in our campsite was fun. Spots are very close together but decent privacy with trees between most spots. One way roads that make little sense but not enough traffic to keep you from driving your RV on them.

We stayed there Oct 2nd and 3rd. We were traveling south with 2 other couples and we had meticulously picked out the the 3 adjoining sites we wanted. We reserved and paid for the sites well in advance and received confirmation. We were notified by email the day before arrival that it was time to "check-in" which I did without checking the site number. When we arrived, we realized that they had changed our site number and there was another camper in our site. They put across the campground in an inferior site and split up our party This WAS UNACCEPTIBLE and a deal breaker. The campground was not full and there was absolutely NO reason for it. Employees couldn't explain why, only that "the computer" does it and there's nothing they can do about it. Not unless you pay the extra $18.00 when you make your reservation. We will never go back and will warn all of our RV friends to stay away!

The 50 amp connection was bad and we didn’t have enough water pressure to shower. We had to run the 5th wheel on 30 amps. The owner told me he had no electrician and a water leak. I was told by 2 different employees that I would get a partial refund but I got nothing. The office was closed the last 2 days of our stay. I will never go back and strongly recommend you find another place as well.

The facility itself is a tree lined park with plenty of grass and tall trees overhanging the sites. We stayed for three rainy days and still had a blast. Volleyball, tetherball, horseshoes, large grassy areas, fire rings and plentiful full hookup sites. One of our favorite locations. We looked at the KOA up the street, and loved the trees, grass and price of this resort much better. Definitely coming back for future stays.

Unfortunately there are some long term residents who have clothes hanging from their awnings and lots of yard mess. It is an eye sore that takes away from the beauty of the park. The office and laundromat could use some upgrades as well. Walking past the ports potties, hold your breath. It is conveniently close to the parks and ocean.
